‘Ounje Eko’ Food Markets: Chairmanship Aspirant Lauds Initiative, Says Govt Will Address Take Off Challenges

Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), Chairmanship aspirant for the Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Ikorodu Division area of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, has lauded the ‘Ounje Eko’ Food Markets initiative of the State Government.

Aroyewun, who commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo – Olu for the intervention, also said that the government would address some of the challenges encountered at the commencement of the discounted market.

The Chairmanship aspirant spoke with THE IMPACT, at the Zumratul Islammiyyah Grammar School, Igbogbo, one of the market venues in Ikorodu Division.

“His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is commended for taking this bold intervention across the state. I also give kudos to the high-level committee in charge incidentally led by his Excellency, Mr Governor”, Aroyewun said.

“The Oúnjẹ Eko intervention ìs an excellent intervention at this critical point. Everyone is implored to contribute to its success so that life can be better for us all. At this point, I am confident that success will be achieved because actions and interventions are being taken by all leaders from various governance angles which is commendable.

“As expected for an intervention of this size and structure, some teething problems are noticed. For examples, the challenges posed by the lack of multiple paying point, unavailability of some food items demanded by residents among others.

“Our people should be rest assured that the problems will be addressed by the government and the committee. I also expect the local governments and councils to support, being the closest to the people”, he assured.

Aroyewun, who started unfolding a 5-point agenda, tagged, ‘Green Intervention’, which highlights his plans for agriculture and environment as number one, for his Chairmanship aspiration last week, also said that his team is studying the initiative of the state government in ensuring that there is food security for Igbogbo residents.

“We are paying attention to this intervention to learn from it. This is important because the first trust of our Green interventions agenda is about food availability’, he said.

“Come 2025 onwards by God’s grace, we intend to collaborate with all structures, bodies, people, experts, to ensure our society has unfettered access to foods. We will also make our signature food get more awareness.

“I conclude by appreciating the president, the Lagos state governor, the government, legislators, council chairmen, and other public officers who are taking bold actions. And I appreciate the people for their understanding and cooperation. I pray that Nigeria, Lagos State, Ikorodu Division and Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA will succeed by God’s grace”, he said.
