The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) has enjoined all Lagos residents to visit different registration outlets spread across the 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the State to register and validate as the case may be, so that the administration can serve them better.

The General Manager of LASRRA, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola disclosed this on Thursday at a media parley held at LASRRA Headquarters, Ikeja, aimed at informing the public on its various activities and achievements as well as what to expect in the coming year.

Emphasising the need for every resident to get on board the scheme, Adebiyi-Abiola explained that the resident registration scheme which began in 2013, was revamped for better services with the introduction of the Smart card – a project tagged LASRRA 2.0 which was approved in 2019.

“With the LASRRA online enrolment and validation portal, which has been improved for better service in line with the smart city Agenda of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, comes with increased coverage and speed of enrollment as well as the opportunity for financial inclusion. Security wise, the smart card guarantees a more secure society since all the residents would be captured and are traceable and can be tracked with the information provided”, she said.

“Students, market women, senior citizens and artisans among others will enjoy a host of value-added services and financial inclusion from the ability to access bank loans to paying school fees, access health insurance, transportation of goods and services and much more”, she added.

The General Manager maintained that the upgraded IT infrastructure of the Agency will make it align with the International Best Practice, saying, “The Government’s commitment to make Lagos a 21st Century Economy has been the driving force behind the pushing of the LAG-ID card that will help drive the Smart City vision”, she said.

According to her, in the Agency’s quest to achieve its mandate, it has continued to make sure that many residents are captured in the database by initiating different strategies to scale up registration including going into different Communities, Organisations and Institutions among others to get residents keyed into the database.

She added that the upgraded version of LASRRA 2.0. has the LAG-ID card as its end product and appealed to residents to pick up their cards in different LGs/LCDAs if they have received an SMS on their mobile phone.

“Your registration status can also be checked with the use of this short USSD code 347641#. Send it with the phone number used for registration and your status will be revealed”, she stated.

The General Manager also revealed that as part of efforts to encourage card pick-up, the Agency is planning to give out some gifts and other promotional items this Christmas Season to celebrate with the residents. The modalities for doing this will be communicated through its social media handles and other traditional means so that many are aware.

While emphasising that the previous #1,000 as an activation fee has been removed, Adebiyi-Abiola disclosed that the Agency’s focus in the coming year is to get many residents registered and captured in the database.

Also present at the event was the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability and Inclusion, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal.
