Institute Of Criminology Honours Chairman, Executive Secretary, Ikorodu Division Security Architecture As Fellows

-As IDPIL becomes corporate member

The Chairman of the Ikorodu security architecture – Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited/GTE, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN, was, on Wednesday, inducted as a fellow of the Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studiesof Nigeria (ICSS).

He was honoured alongside the Executive Secretary of the group, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, at a special investiture ceremony which was held at the Regal Hall, Olu – Odo in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.

At the ceremony, which was attended by chieftains of the ICSS, IDPIL/GTE and a few guests, the security architect was also inducted as a Corporate Member of the ICSS.

The Registrar – General of the institute, Dr Samuel Aderemi Adekunle (Dfcss), described the induction as a special one and a rare privilege for the inductees which the council usually approved once in a while.

“We are here to celebrate two illustrious sons of Ikorodu and of course, to formally accept the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative into the Corporate Membership of the Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studies”, he said.

“ICSS was founded over twenty years ago and this is the only professional body in Nigeria and the entire African that is charged with the responsibilities of crime prevention, control….

The induction of High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, the Odofin of Ikorodu and Chairman, IDPIL/GTE represented by Dr Oyebo (3rd left) by the ICSS chieftains.

“Our council is endowed with very rich intellectuals and shakers and movers of the society, whom Otunba Abiru and High Chief Ogunsanya, SAN, will be joining to lend their hands towards resolving the trouble of insecurity that we have in Nigeria.

Speaking on the functions of the ICSS and its membership, the Registrar of the security institute, said:

“ICSS offers professional training of all forms; researches; publications and professional networking of the security agencies and personnel. These are just a few out of numerous functions that we perform”, he said.

“Much more importantly, ICSS is blessed with so many serving and retired military and para – military officers. There are many from the Nigerian Police Force, Army, Navy, Air Force and so numerous ones from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps. There are others from the Immigration, NDLEA and Correctional Services.

“The IDPIL will enjoy professional intelligence as a corporate member. The IDPIL is an indigenous security apparatus that is already helping us to stem the issue of insecurity in Ikorodu and by extension in Lagos and it is highly welcome into the team.

“I believe that your coming to join ICSS will also help in strengthening the professionalism with which the job of securing Ikorodu and Lagos will be done, henceforth. The issue of criminology and security management of all forms is our pre – occupation”, ICSS Registrar added.

Otunba Abiru, the Executive Secretary, IDPIL, who spoke on behalf of the two newly inductees and the security architecture, thanked the ICSS for considering them worthy of membership.

He assured the institute of the inductees and the IDPIL’s commitment and dedication to the core principles of the body.

“Today, again, marked a milestone in the journey of life, in my life and the life of Odofin Adewunmi Adedeji Ogunsanya, SAN, and I must, in gratitude to God, thank the institute for finding us worthy of this prestigious award. What this means, therefore, is that a lot of responsibilities have been bestowed on us and it is expected that we should not be found wanting in this regard”, Otunba Abiru said in his acceptance speech.

“I want to assure you, Sirs, that on our part as fellow members of this institute, we will abide by rules and regulations of this institute and ensure that we partake in all activities of the institute that will enhance its advancement in the comity of institutes.

“Let me also say here that admitting the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiatives as a corporate member of the institute is indeed a very valuable event that will be in the annals of the organization.

“On behalf of the Chairman, trustees and members of the organization, I want to say thank you for deeming us worthy. We know for sure that joining the institute will benefit us immensely and we are going to tap into the vast knowledge of the institute. We also believe that symbiotically, we will gain from each other”, he said.

Adebimpe Akinsola, former Commissioner for Tourism and chieftain of the IDPIL, Dr Adewale Amusa(fcss), Chairman membership Committee, ICSS; Dr Adewale Adeniran (fcss), Director Training & lĺDevelopment, ICSS; Mr Davidson Odunlami (fcss), Director, Corporate Affairs, ICSS and Mrs Nwobodo Ijeoma Blessing (fcss) Director, Membership Development, ICSS among others.
