The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) branch, is set to partner the Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. (Hon) Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, in reducing unemployment by targeting 1000 youths and women in the council, for employment in 2023.

The Coordinator of the youth body, Com. Asoro Abubakar Olatunji, in a statement sent to THE IMPACT, said that the plan is in line with the vision of the Council Chairman, towards ending unemployment.

According to the statement, he revealed the plan at the annual end of the year party of the Physically Challenged Association of Ikorodu West, which is an affiliate of the youth body.

“The local branch is concluding plans with partners to actualize the goal which is also part of the strategies to create a greener and sustainable economy in Ikorodu West”, he said.

“The branch, with the support of stakeholders, will be investing in another partnership aimed at mentoring and helping about 100 youths get direct employment at various private sectors of the economy by the end of 2023”.

“The youth council will continue to run an inclusive government, and will continue to prioritize the welfare of the youths of Ikorodu West”.

He noted that, “the current peace that Ikorodu West LCDA enjoys has to be sustained by ensuring that youths are gainfully employed which will in turn guarantee economic growth, reduce youth restiveness, and ensure safety of life and property”.

While stating that the gains of 2023 for the organization shows that things are improving, Olatunji called on the stakeholders not to relent in supporting them.

He charged youths in Ikorodu West LCDA to pick their PVCs and be ready to decide their future with their votes during the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

“The way to determine the future is by being armed with PVC”, he said.

“The youths are always at the receiving end of bad governance, we have to get our PVC not as a means of trading for cash but as a means to enthrone good governance”, Olatunji added.
