Elepe Secondary School Athletes Dominate 2022 Alhaji R.B.O. Aroyewun Marathon Race

It was all about Elepe Senior Community Secondary School as young athletes from the school dominated the 2022 Alhaji R.B.O. Aroyewun Marathon Competition for Secondary School and Open categories.

The short distance race, sponsored by family of late Balogun of the Igbogbo Central Mosque, has been in existence since 1992.

The overall winner of the race, Master Ayomide David of the Elepe Senior Secondary School, Elepe, Igbogbo,covered the distance in 20minutes.

He was presented with N10, 000 cash gift and a medal.

About 120 young marathoners that represented different schools and others who participated as open candidates, commenced the race at the Adeboruwa palace and ran through Oba Molaja Road, Igbe junction, Rep. Babajimi Benson Road (formerly Igbe Road), Oreyo, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way (formerly Agbele Road, Agarawu junction to link Awolowo Way Odofin junction and terminated at the Aroyewun’s building opposite the Igbogbo Ultra – Modern market/Park.

In the second position on the list of those that represented schools in the males category, was Bolawa Hameed Opeyemi (Elepe Senior Secondary School), while Oseni Samson (High Flyers School, Igbogbo) came third.

Both received N7, 000 and N5, 000 respectively and medals.

In the female category for school representatives, Onah Grace, also of Elepe Senior Secondary School, emerged winner while Ibrahim Barakat, Elepe Senior Secondary School and Oyebo Omolayo emerged second and third respectively.
While the winner received N10, 000 for her efforts, the first and second runners – up got N7000 and N5000 respectively.

Also, the organizers encouraged those in the 4th and 5th positions in both boys and girls categories for schools by giving them N3000 and N2000 consolatory cash gift each.

For the open category, Hawa Haruna, Kusoro Oluwabusayo and Aderibigbe Noimat emerged first, second and third in the girls category respectively and they received N15, 000, N10, 000 and N7, 000 with medals in that other, for their efforts, while Kushimo Ayomide and Modinat Kazeem who came 5th and 5th got N5000 and N3000 respectively.

In the first, second and third positions in the boys open category, Oseni Samson, Oseni Lateef and Buhari Wahab came first, second and third respectively. They were given N15, 000, N10, 000 and N7000 respectively as prize money.

As it was the case in other categories, Oyetunde Toheeb and Olanrewaju Amos who came 4th and 5th also received the sum of N5000 and N3000 respectively.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the family, Barr. Adeleke Aroyewun thanked the sports committee for keeping faith with the annual programme and for supporting the family.

He also said that the family will continue to sponsor the short distance race in memory of their late father.

Aroyewun also commended the athletes for putting up what he termed impressive show. He charged them to keep training and keep fit and not stop until they reach the stardom while also enjoining them to be committed to their studies.

Mr Tolu Faniyi, Chairman, Igbogbo Day Sports Sub – Committee and other members of his team were fully on ground to ensure that everything went well.
