The Best student to receive the scholarship award of the Ikorodu Division Resources Development Group (IDRDG), Miss Ijaodoro Aina Aminat Omobolanle, has stated that her dream is to change the perception of Nursing profession in the country.

Omobolanle, who has 4.94 CGPA, is a student of Medicine Science, College of Medicine, Lagos State University (LASU), and was among the 17 students Ikorodu Division Resources Development Group (IDRDG) presented with N100, 000 each on Sunday, September 5, 2022.

Beneficiaries will enjoy the scholarship throughout the course of study provided that they maintain their CGPA that qualified them for the scholarship.

The cash presentation event, which was attended by eminent members of the IDRDG, took place at the Gbadamosi Conference Room, Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu.

The IDRDG Scholar who hailed from Ikorodu, spoke with THE IMPACT after the presentation of the award.

“I want to change the face of the profession from the perspective of ‘Abe Ile’ or auxiliary nurses. I don’t want that type of nursing. I want to make sure that my patients get better treatments, because I am their caregiver”, she said.

“Though, the doctor prescribes drugs and every other thing, but without me, they cannot have the drugs. I am the one administering the drugs and the one showing love to them that everything going to be fine.

“I am going to make sure that my patients get better fully as a nurse would have done”, she assured.

“As an Ikorodu indigene studying Nursing, I want to change the perspective of nursing profession. The way we view the profession in Nigeria is really downgrading for some of us studying Nursing as a profession”, she said.

The scholarship awardee also assured that she will maintain her CGPA and if possible improve on it so as to remain as IDRDG Scholar.

“Although, I am the best among the 17 awardees of today, I didn’t just start with 4,94, I was actually on a CGPA of 5.0 before we transited to the Lagos State University College of Medicine, but you know that they don’t just give you 5.0 CGPA all the time”, she said.

“Though, I am not really impressed with the CGPA right now, but I know that there are many others that are really interested in what I have right now. So, I am really thankful for what I have.

“I want my family and everybody to known that I am not going to give up. Even if I can’t go higher, l am going to maintain the current CGPA. But the target is to better it by going back to my 5.0 if possible”, she said.

She was full of commendations for the IDRDG for the educational grant which she said would greatly assisted her studies.

“My family is not financially buoyant but we are also not struggling. This scholarship will help strengthen my academic performance and also l will use it to get some academic materials that I will be needing for my Nursing profession”, she said.

“I am really grateful that I am part of the awardees of today because I don’t know how things would have worked out without this scholarship, but Alhamdullahi, I am here today and I thank IDRDG for this scholarship”, she added.

She charged her fellow students to identify their goals and pursue them if they are to be successful.

“To every other students out there, I know that we are all struggling and really tampering with your emotional ability, but what I will tell them is that if I can do it, obviously you too can. One thing about education is that it is the way we view it that it would turn out to be. You must know what you want for yourself and your family expectations, I believe that you can do it”, she charged.

“As long as you know what you want for yourself and know your goals, it is a must to know how to achieve them. To every student struggling out there, I know it is not easy but definitely you can do it”.
