Ikorodu Tourism Offers Free Travel Training For Residents

A free travel and tourism training has been offered by the Ikorodu Tourism Group (ITG), under the Chief Associate Foundation, to develop new set of travel tourism professionals.

A total of nine participants who have a minimum of National Diploma (ND), benefited from the one week training which was organised in collaboration with Forthmove Travels and Zeezah Travels.

The training was held at the ITG office at the Ikorodu garage, where participants were engaged in intense classes by seasoned professionals in the industry.

Facilitator of the training and Chief Executive Officer, ITG, Mr Ogunsanmi Hassan Morufu, speaking with THE IMPACT at the end of the exercise, said that the programme was aimed at guiding those aspiring to pursue a career in Travel and Tours and assisting them to start their iwn business.

“It’s about free training on travel and tourism hospitality and also for youths that have interest in the profession. It is our own way of giving back to the society and help in reducing unemployment. That is what gave birth to the training.

“After this one week training, participants would be posted out for six months internship so as to have practical experience, after which we would encourage them to start their own company and we would be available to guide them through”.

He said that the trainees would also be taking on tour of Idere Hill as part of their field experience.

Mr Charles Ukomandu, a seasoned training consultant who was certified by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and thorough bred professional in travel and tourism with four decades of experience, took the trainees through book keeping, office practice, and entrepreneurship, while the multiple award – winning Anago Osho handled the tour guide class.

The Ticketing class was handled by the representative of Galileo Travel Services (GTS).

Other notable facilitators at the training were David Sunmonu, President, Nigeria Hotel and Catering Institute and Mrs Omolewa Afegbei, lecturer, National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism among others.

According to the CEO, Ikorodu Tourism Group, the training in travel and tours would be an annual event.
