Ikorodu West NYCN Coordinator, Asoro Presents Two Years Scorecard

Two years after his emergence as the Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (NYCN), Comrade Asoro Abubakri  Olatunji, last week, presented his administration’s scorecard.

He also restated his desire to continue offering himself for service to his community and humanity in general.

In a statement signed by Asoro, the report of his administration’s achievements was presented during an executive management meeting which marked the two years of his leadership of NYCN in Ikorodu West.

“Today, I presided over the management meeting where l presented the 2 years score card of our administration. At the meeting, I reiterated my commitment to continue to offer myself for service to humanity at every opportunity life offers”, he said.

According to the report, in the last two years, the Ikorodu West LCDA, under Asoro’s leadership, has impacted on youths in the areas of education, empowerment and political involvement.

During the last two years, his administration gave tutorials to 50 students to prepare them for JAMB examinations, while more than 60 were given empowerment/trainings in different skills and several others assisted with startup equipment.

Asoro’s administration also facilitated 22 temporary employments for youths.

In the area of youth political inclusion, Comrade Asoro’s led Ikorodu West NYCN, facilitated the registration for Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) for more than 2000 youths.

In term of public awareness for youth inclusion in governance and other youth related matters, his administration embarked on advocacy and enlightenment campaigns on radio and public spaces.

The NYCN Coordinator also said that affiliated organisations were not only certified and documented, but that six new ones joined the fold while means of identification were also provided for members.

In the statement made available to THE IMPACT, Comrade Asoro said that:

“Members of our team got trained by UNESCO/SFH Harmful practices on June 16, 2021.

“Conducted peer to peer education on Drug Abuse, Sexual Abuse and other harmful practices between June and July 2021.

“Influenced about 10 LASIEC jobs for our youths.

“Organised a physical fitness walk on July 16, in the interest of promoting good well – being and furthering our campaign against drug abuse.

“Mobilised youths against voter apathy during the LG elections on July 24.

“Celebrated the International Youth Day with the media (IKD 106.1) through advocacy, on Aug 12.

The Ikorodu West NYCN Coordinator also stated that, his administration:

“Conducted free INEC pre-enrolment exercise in four communities across Ikorodu West between the month of August and September.

“Embarked on media advocacy on the danger of drug abuse, on 12 September, 2021;

“Organised Sickle Cell Education and free medical outreach on 25 Sept, 2021;

“Organised a maiden Dinner, Award and Beauty Pageant, on Nov 5, 2021;

“Embark on Media advocacy on the danger of incompatibility of Gene of prospective couples, on October 24, 2021;

“Inaugurated Igbo-Olomu Youth Movement, on Nov 5, 2021 and,

“Organised friendly football match with the Deaf association to celebrate International Disability Day, on Dec 19, 2021.

Within the period under review, the Asoro led NYCN executive committee also ensured that:

“20 Youths graduated from Ministry of Wealth and Empowerment training facilitated by Hon Lanre Sulaimon  FCA, FCTI, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West. Each participant got TECNO POP 6.

“Secured employment for two of our youths with a private organizations.

“Facilitated empowerment for three beneficiaries courtesy of LSTEF.

“Free JAMB examination tutorials for over 40 applicants in Ikorodu West, with the support of  UEYAN and Ikorodu West Legislative Chamber.

“Procurement of Free JAMB Forms & registration for 8 indigent youths in Ikorodu West LCDA (30 forms were donated by anonymous sponsor, 3 by Hon S.O.B. Agunbiade and Five by Hon Batife Daisi).

“Provided grant, courtesy  of Budgit, which was used in hosting IKORODU DIVISION INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH YOUTH STAKEHOLDERS. The event was organised in partnership with Forum of NYCN Coordinators in Ikorodu Division.

“Produced second batch of means of identification and distributed them to members to avoid impersonation”.

In the last two years, the body also organized:

“One empowerment training and internship placement for the Deaf, through IKWDDA and courtesy of LSTEF.

“Medical outreach and distribution of 35 school bags to students at Ewe-Nla community (courtesy of our Director of Health and an anonymous donor) to celebrate the birthday of the Coordinator.

“Four of our team were certified as Community Outreach Officers by the German Government.

“Partnered iCare Foundation to help residents within Ikorodu West with PVC enrollment which was our Second Phase of the exercise.

“Hosted FGM campaign initiated by our partners.

“Attended Constituency Project Monitoring enlightenment training  by Bugit, and

“Our team volunteered with WHO IS WHO on free blood donation, and also donated”.
