We Will Continue To Immortalise Asiwaju Benson With Annual Lecture – Ikorodu NBA

The Ikorodu branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has assured that the body would continue to organise the annual Asiwaju Babatunde Olusola Benson Annual Public Lecture to immoratalise the late statesman, icon and legal luminary for his contributions to the profession and national developments.

This year’s edition of the annual lecture which is usually part of the branch’s Law Week events, will be the 15th edition.

According to the NBA Ikorodu Chairman, Mr Abimbola Ojedokun, the event will be the star of all the events unveiled for this year’s Law Week.

He unveiled activities for the 2022 Law Week at a press conference held at the Bar Centre on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

Chairman Senate Committee on the Media and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Osun State, Senator (Dr.) Surajudeen Ajibola Bashir, will be the guest lecturer and expected to deliver lecture on, “Lawyers, Administration of Justice and the Imperative of Credible Elections in 2023 for Nigeria’s Political and Economic Stability”.

The topic, according Mr Ojedokun, was chosen to prepare Nigerians for the 2023 General Elections.

The lecture will be chaired by Hon. Justice Habeeb Abiru, Justice of the Court of Appeal while the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Shotobi, will lead other Obas in the division as the royal fathers of the day.

Senator Tokunbo Abiru, the Lagos East Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on Industry, is the Special Guest of Honour.

Other activities lined up for the 2022 Law Week are Law Reform Roundtable scheduled to hold at the Exclusives Club, Ikorodu, and Police Duty Solicitors’ Visitation to Police Divisions in Ikorodu on Thursday, May 12, 2022.

Mr Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, Chairman, Lagos State Law Reform Commission, Mr Femi Falana among other legal luminaries are expected to grace the occasion to discuss the legal procedure in use in Lagos State.

On Day three which is Friday, May 13, 2022, Health Talk on Stress Management and Dealing with Depression and Free Medical Evaluation for members of the bar will hold at the Bar Center. There will also be Jumat Service/Legal Aid at the Ansar – Ud – Deen Mosque, Ikorodu.

Saturday, May 14th, will host Aerobics at the Unique Blossom School, Ikorodu, and later same day, there will be Variety Evening at the Masbat De King Hotel.

Day five of the Law Week scheduled for the Thanksgiving Service and Legal Aid at the Anglican Church, Sheriff junction, Ikorodu, while Monday, May 16, hosts a discourse on the topic, ‘Anatomy of Medical and Health Law Procedure Practice at the Gbadamosi Hall of the Ikorodu Town Hall.

Members of the association led by the NBA Chairman, Mr Ojedokun and 2022 Law Week Chairman, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, immediate after the press conference, embarked  on, ‘Walk Against Domestic and Gender Violence’, to further create sensitization on the issue within the Ikorodu community.

The walk which commenced at the High Court Complex in Ikorodu, saw participants walked through major streets.
