-As Senator rolls out achievements within a year.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Industries and the Senator representing the Lagos East Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, on Tuesday (yesterday), continued his tradition of making direct bank transfers to batch A beneficiaries of the 2500 vulnerable constituents pool for the 11 months consecutively.
The financial intervention started in January this year with beneficiaries drawn from the 98 wards in the 16 Local Governments (LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the Lagos East Senatorial District.
In a statement made available today by the Senator’s Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Mr Enitan Olukotun, he said that beneficiaries include people with physical disabilities, unemployed youths, widows and other vulnerable people in the senatorial district.
He said that the former banker turned politician has been impacting positively on many of his constituents since his emergence as a Senator last year December, while rolling out his stewardship account.
“Abiru, whose interventions and programmes are targeted at the larger number of people in the constituency, has been impacting lives in an unprecedented manner since he got into the saddle last December”, he said.
“In less than a year, he has achieved so much to the astonishment of many in the Senatorial District and beyond.
“In less than 6 months in the saddle, Senator Tokunbo Abiru sponsored a private member bill titled, ‘The Copyright Act Repeal And Re-enactment Bill, 2021’, that will replace the extant Copyright Act Cap C28 LFN 2004. In a record time, the Bill went through a Public Hearing that attracted creative professionals, intellectual property experts, policy makers and other critical stakeholders”.
He also said that Sen. Abiru’s intervention on the abandoned Ikorodu – Shagamu and Ikorodu – Itoikin Roads, has also yielded results as the Federal Government has made provision for funds for the projects.
“Concerned about the plight of constituents and other road users plying Ikorodu/Sagamu Road and Ikorodu/Itoikin/Epe Epe Road, the distinguished Senator moved a motion calling on the Federal Government to urgently intervene on the two critical roads.
“The intervention with necessary follow-ups yielded positive outcomes.
“The Federal Government has included the funding of Ikorodu-Shagamu road in the SUKUK Financing program and included Ikorodu-Itoikin in the 2022 budget.
“The Sukuk Financing Program is an assured financing program that will accelerate the completion of Ikorodu-Sagamu road”, he further said.
He also listed the lawmaker’s impact in the area of education, health facilities, sports and market developments.
“Within the same period, the Senator also facilitated four blocks of 24 classrooms with compliments of furniture and 16 toilets to Aga Primary School in Ikorodu.
“At the Ikorodu Campus of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), the Senator facilitated a 200-solar-powered street lights to the school while construction of a 30-bed Health facility and Dental Centre is currently under construction.
“In Agboyi Ketu LCDA, the Senator facilitated another 30-Bed Health facility at Mascara Health Centre. In the same manner, another 40-bed is under construction at Isiu in Ikorodu North LCDA.
“In Ibeju-Lekki, two blocks of 6 classrooms are currently under construction at RCM Primary School Iwerekun, Ibeju-Lekki. In Kosofe Local Government, 1 block of 3 classrooms are also underway at Ajelogo Primary School.
“In Epe, a 960-spectator capacity mini stadium is also facilitated for the people of the ancient city. The two-pavilion sport facility is equipped with Basketball and Volleyball courts, and are also under construction.
“Likewise, the popular Oluwa Fish Market in Epe is also being remodeled. The remodeled market will have lock-up shops, open sheds and 48 toilets”.
According to the statement, 600 indigent students picked across the district were also granted bursary awards by the Senator. Also, 1000 youths were engaged in business capacity building with 100, 000, 000 million revolving loans made available to them.
The Senator is also setting up a hub to train youths on relevant digital skills.
“In addressing the digital skills gap, the Senator is currently setting up a Community Innovation Hub in partnership with a renowned technology company in Lagos to train youths in the senatorial district on relevant digital and innovation skills, and build the best entrepreneurs that can compete in the ever-dynamic global economy”, Olukotun said in the statement.
