Igbogbo Day 2021: Football Competition Commences Monday

16 teams across the Igbogbo Kingdom are set to compete in the football competition of the 33rd Igbogbo Day Celebration with group matches commencing on Monday, October 25, 2021.

The draw ceremony for the fixtures of the competition was held at the Adeboruwa Pavilion on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

All the matches would be played at the Igbogbo Stadium with Oliwo Amoju FC and Adeyanlu Estate FC playing in the opening game.

The Chairman, 2021 Sport Sub – Committee of the Igbogbo Day, Mr. Faniyi Tolulope O.,  said that:

“The Igbogbo Day Football competition is part of the activities marking the 33rd Igbogbo Day celebration. The football competition is part of the sports programmes being used to commemorate the Igbogbo Day celebration.

 “The annual Igbogbo Day programme is a celebration of culture, human capacity and development”.

According to the official match fixtures signed by Babatunde Orekoya Obayomi, Secretary, 2021 Igbogbo Day Sports Sub-committee    and received by THE IMPACT, the 16 teams are grouped into four groups with four teams each in a group for the preliminary matches.

Drawn together in Group A are Oliwo Amoju FC, Adeyanlu Estate,FC, Awobo Estate FC and Lawal JS Ogunlewe FC, while Pineapple Estate FC, Itungodo FC, Offin FC and Agunfoye FC will do battle in group B.

Otugbuwa Bombers FC, Stadium Road/Olayinka FC, Lajo FC and Aina Olowu FC would slug it out in Group C, while Ire Akari Estate FC, Itunla FC, Selewu FC and Aiyegbami FC are in Group D.

Aside the football competition, other sporting competitions that would be staged to mark this year’s Igbogbo Day are : Athletics (Marathon & other events) – Secondary School & Open Category), Scrabble (Secondary Schools & Open Category), Ayo Olopon, Draught, Table Tennis, Snooker and Boxing ( Exhibition).
