New Council Chairman Inaugurates 5th Ikorodu West LCDA Assembly, As Hon. Jessica Oba Emerges Leader

Hon. Jessica Enitan Oba, taking oath of office as the 5th Assembly Council Leader, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Wednesday.

The Chairman of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, on Wednesday;, July 28, 2021, inaugurated the 5th Assembly in the Council, following the closure of the fourth Assembly.

During the inauguration and proclamation, the former Supervisory Councillor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) in the immediate past administration of Hon. Jumoke Jimbo – Ademehin, Hon. Jessica Enitan Oba, representing Ward A (Ipakodo), was elected as the Council Leader.

Hon. Daisi Batife, representing Ward B, emerged as the Deputy Leader of the House.

The new Council Leader was nominated for the position by Hon. Daisi Batife (Ward B) and the nomination was seconded by Hon. Abimbola Taiwo Owomilowomi (Ward E), while Hon. Abimbola Bello (Ward C) and Hon. Abimbola Taiwo (Ward E) nominated and seconded the nomination of Hon. Batife as Deputy leader respectively.

The Clerk of the House, Mrs Ogunmoyero Kofoworola, made the pronouncement that Hon. Jessica and Hon. Batife had been elected as the Council Leader and Deputy Leader respectively at 3. 27pm.

After administering the oath of office on Hon. Jessica Oba, the first female Council Leader in Ikorodu West LCDA, she performed her first official duties by announcing and administering the oath of office on Hon. Abimbola Taiwo Owomilowomi and Hon. Abimbola Bello as the Majority Leader and Chief Whip of the 5th Assembly respectively.

Hon. Tejumaiye Adeyanju Julius (Ward D), the former Deputy Leader of the 4th Assembly, is the only returning Councillor in the present Legislative Assembly.

Proclaiming the Assembly, Hon. Sulaimon charged the members of the Council Legislative Arm to assist the Council in making good laws that would bring about development and make lives easier for the people of the council.

He charged the Council legislators to cooperate with his administration in developing good ideas that would impact positively on the masses.

Hon. Sulaimon also congratulated members of the Council Legislative Arm on their election and assured them of his administration’s support.

In her acceptance speech, Hon. Oba assured her party, electorate and members of the Legislative arm that they would not regret picking her as the Leader of the House.

“I am greatly delighted today to become the newly elected Leader of the Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area”, the nee Leader of the council said.

“I thank everybody who has contributed in one way or the other to this great honour, and I seize this opportunity to assure that I will not give you cause to regret the support and confidence you repose in me.

She pledged on behalf of herself and other Councillors to give their best in the course of discharging their duties to the Council.

“I pledge to be loyal to the Government and my colleagues. I promise to discharge my duties efficiently and diligently to the best of my ability.

“I say it boldly that we Councillors, as members of the Legislative body, shall commit ourselves to the development of this Council, and the oath and swearing –in that took place today are covenants between us, the Councillors, and you, the great people of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area.

“We shall, by the special grace of God, live to fulfill the trust and commitment you repose in us. We shall not in any way deviate from the path the party has set for us.

She thanked APC and members of the party for electing her and other members of the Legislative arm in the last council election.

The Clerk of the House, Mrs Ogunmoyero Kofoworola, in her address, said:

“The Honourable Councillors being sworn – in today have a lot to do in terms of making laws, oversight duties and other community relationship meetings.

“To all the newly elected Councilors, I want to use this opportunity to request for an undiluted unity and cooperation of purpose as maintained during the fourth (4th) Assembly. We are lucky that all of us are from the All Progressive Congress (APC) family, hence, differentiation and rivalry of godfathers will not be part of our issue.

“Dear distinguished Councilors, cooperation between you and Council Clerk will make a good success in all our progress and proceedings. The Council Clerk, as Centre of focus and also the administrative Head at the Legislative Arm, should be carried along in all the Legislative activities and welfare packages without any discrimination, this will further empower us in all our dealings.

“Although, the Legislative Council of this local government in the immediate past fourth (4th) Assembly has been so feared in terms of relationship with the Council Clerk, this makes us differ from some legislative councils.

She charged them to be guided by the Administrative Law of the State in their dealings.

“My dear distinguished Councillors, lets us be guided by the 2011 Administrative Law (Guidelines) and its amended copy gazette in June, 2016 and act accordingly that Council Clerk has been warned from signing any impeachment because it is not in conformity with Lagos State Administrative Laws and the amended Caps”, she said.

Earlier, the Head of the Council Legal Department, Mr Abdullahi, sworn – in and administered oath of office on the newly elected Councillors at an event held at the Ikorodu West LCDA Secretariat hall.

Alhaji Nofiu Olakitan, the APC Chairman in Ikorodu West LCDA, speaking att the swearing – in ceremony, charged members of the Legislative arm to see all party members in their wards as their people and ensure that they are united under the party’s flag.

He also counseled them to cooperate with the Council Chairman and his administration and not work against him.
