The concerned youths, at their meeting held at the Regal Hall, Olu – Odo, Igbogbo in Ikorodu, Lagos,Southwest, Nigeria, on Saturday, May 22, 2021, resolved to engage young aspirants as part of their support for youths aspiring for political positions.

After deliberation, Hon Azeez Abiodun Olosugbo and Prince Adedoyin Ogunbiyi Jokotex, both of whom are vying for the chairmanship positions in Ikorodu Local Government and Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area respectively, were invited for interactive session.

The parley, which is scheduled to hold at the Regal Hall on Monday, May 24, 2021, the two aspirants adopted are expected to present their programmes and engage invited reporters/media houses and CIDY members.

According to the facilitators of the meeting, both aspirants were picked based on their closeness and support for the youths over the years as well as their political relevance politically and being responsible youths.

The aspirants, according to further report, were picked because they have brilliant agenda, particularly for the youths, that they want to execute if elected.

Mr Ogo – Oluwa Godwin, the Co- Coordinator of CIDY, speaking with THE IMPACT, said that the intervention became necessary so as to prove to the young aspirants that they are not alone.

“We decided to have this meeting because youths possess strong strength and such must be put into good use.

“This is our way of identifying with the youths, especially those vying for the chairmanship positions.

“We are identifying with them now, so that we would be able to monitor their progress in office and also engage them on good governance” he said.

Also speaking, Mr Seun Elesho said that the two aspirants were picked not because of their political affiliation but based on their activities in various youth organisations and involvement in community developments.

“We resolved to pick the two aspirants because they have been very prominent and active in the advancements of the youths and the community as a whole and not because of their political affiliations”, he said.

“We know their pedigree and engagements over the years. In actual fact, they are among the first set of aspirants to present a clear – cut agenda on what they want to do if elected into political office.

“This is our way of engaging aspirants politically and ensure that only those that are fit, reliable and responsible are trusted with a position of responsibility.

“These are people that we can call to order when the need arises “, he added.

Also speaking, Samson Bisiriyu said that the group has met with some political leaders on the need to allow youths that have shown interest to govern or allow for a level playing ground.

“We have met with some leaders and we are still planning to continue with the consultations in respect of capable youths that are vying for political offices, especially those vying for the chairmanship positions.

“We have been assured that there will be a level – playing ground for all the aspirants at the primary election and what we are doing now is to mobilize for youths that are aspiring and support them in winning the primary and the local government elections.

“We also intend to officially write the Apex body of the ruling party in this regard.

The youth leader, who said that the team has met with Asiwaju Olorunfunmiu Basorun and Otunba Ganiyu Abiru among others, said that they have been charged to mobilize youths, who are in great numbers, for the primary and main elections.

He, therefore, appealed to the youths to deliver a bloc vote for the adopted youth aspirants in the elections.

Meanwhile, CIDY has also charged other youths aspiring for Councillorship positions to ensure that they campaign based on issues and avoid engaging in violent or abusive campaigns.
