The Chairman of the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board, Professor Adebukola Olushola Ositelu, has stated there is a traditional remedy for the COVID – 19 virus that is ravaging the global village.

She said that many people have been using the remedy with positive results.

Prof. Ositelu said this in an interview with THE IMPACT during the sensitization and advocacy programme of the traditional medicine board held at the Ayangbure palace during the week.

She, however, said that NAFDAC, the body responsible for the regulations of drugs in the country, is yet to grant approval for the remedy.

“We have already gotten something  for COVID – 19 since last year.  We have a remedy that everyone is using and they are all testifying”, she said.

“We have it and you can even prepare it yourself. We are waiting for the NAFDAC to announce it because we have sent it to them.

“We have done our studies and sent the samples to them. We have records of those that have used the remedy after they tested positive and they have recovered”.

While stating that the remedy has been submitted to NAFDAC, Professor Ositelu said that it is prepared with “Brazillian Pilanto (Abamoda leave) and Lime Pepper (Ata Ijosi), adding that three large leaves should  be grinded with lime pepper and mix with honey.

“For prevention, you should take a spoon a week and if you have COVID-19, take two or three times daily and by the time you take the fourth one, you will be tested negative”, she added.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board, who said that there was an attempt to prosecute her in 2003, announced that Ewedu can be used in preventing and curing Ebola and also re-emphasized that they are still waiting for NAFDAC approval for the remedy.

She charged Africans to protect their values and what they have been blessed with and drop the mentality that everything about African medicine is fetish.

“The white men have washed our brains and say that our language that we are speaking is vernacular. They call all our plants fetish, but the same people who said our plant are fetish are using our plants and have turned them into capsules, injections, syrup, and tablets. They even gave them botanical names”, Prof. Ositelu said.

“We need to wake up and value what God has given us. They are making use of them but I don’t blame them but ourselves and we need to wake up.

“I am a Pastor and the first chapter of my Bible tells me that God has created plants and herbs for our foods. The last chapter, as important as it is, also emphasizes that leaves are used for healing of nations”.
