The President of the Igbogbo Youth Coalition (IYC), Mr Gbenga George Odunniyi, has said that Igbogbo youths will be further engaged with more impactful programmes in 2021.

He spoke with THE IMPACT after the 2021 Annual General Meeting of the IYC held at the Adeboruwa Pavilion in Igbogbo on Saturday, April 3, 2021.

At the general meeting, reports of the last administrative year and finance were presented to members.

The executive committee also presented 2021 programmes designed to build formidable youths, encourage community and political engagements.

Builder Sesan Mayokun Daini, Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), attended the meeting in his official and personal capacity as financial member of IYC.

Speaking with our reporter after the AGM, IYC President charged members of the body, which comprises all youths organizations in Igbogbo and its environs, to have unity of purpose and always place public interest above individual interest.

“Unity of purpose is what is missing in our youth and there is a need to build and encourage this”, he said.

“Public interest must be placed above individuals’ interests when you offer yourself to serve the public. I expect our members to always be alive to their responsibilities because this is the only way to prepare ourselves for the future and perform whenever we are saddled with any position of responsibility or authority”.

He said that the body was able to organize career talk for youths in secondary schools within the community last year which was characterized by COVID – 19 pandemic.

Odunniyi also said that IYC, under his leadership, plans to enroll youths in Igbogbo for vocational skills and engage them in agricultural training among other programmes for 2021.

“COVID-19 has been a major constraint in achieving our target for the year under review. However, we’ve made our mark to get something good for our youths”, he said.

“In the last one year, we’ve been able to organize career talk for teeming youths in the secondary schools.

“For this year, we plan enrollment of our youths in vocational schools and also engage them with more impactful ideas of community engagements”, he said.

“We are also planning to engage them in agricultural trainings such  as poultry farming, fish farming, vegetable farming etc.

“Another area that we are also looking at is online business training and marketing”, Odunniyi added.

Builder Daini, in his remarks at the AGM, said that he was happy to attend the meeting as a financial member.

He commended members for their deliberations and urged members to cooperate with the executives.

“I am happy to be here as a financial member and I love the deliberations so far which show that we are on the right path”, he said.

“If we fail to deal with our own issues or fail to correct ourselves when needed, we might not have the ground to call those outside to order. But things must be done in accordance with laid down regulations.

“It is also important that members should support and cooperate with the executives in the interest of the Igbogbo community”, he charged.
