Ikorodu Youths Inspired To Go Into Farming, Help Food Production

Many of the young constituents of Ikorodu Federal Constituency who are currently undergoing training in Animal Husbandry and Crop Production at Army Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi, have resolved to go fully into farming.

The youths, who are hundred in number, are currently receiving practical training at the NAFRIC Centre where they are being housed with free feeding for the duration of the training.

The two – term lawmaker, Hon. Babajimi Benson, the representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Defense, facilitated the agricultural training in conjunction with the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC).

Bello Omotola Abdulakeem from Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division, who is studying Crop Production, said that the training has been interesting and enlightening.

The trainee, who said that she has been able to learnt a lot, also said that she intends to establish her own agricultural firm and encourage young people to take to farming.

“The training has been very interesting and educative. It has been enlightened to the minds.

“lt is a very impactful programme.

“After the training, I will start giving back to the community by enlightening local farmers, establishing agricultural firms and encouraging youths to take to agriculture and help the community to meet the demand for farm produce”, she said.

Hameed Folorunsho Owolabi, a former Supervisory Councilor in Ikorodu Local Government, who is studying Animal Husbandry at the NAFRC training, also said that the training has been impactful

“We have been undergoing a very impactful training and it has really transformed and widened my knowledge about agriculture”, he said.

“I have learnt a lot. I can rear great numbers of birds successfully now.

“The training is so impactful to the extent that my knowledge has gone beyond agriculture.

“My aim is to go into practical aspect of farming after the training”, he said.

Soyiga Samuel Adeshina, President of the National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS) and a student of Lagos State University (LASU), is receiving training in Animal Husbandry and Crop production at the NAFRC training.

He said that the participants are experiencing new things entirely at the NAFRC.

“We have been having greatly impactful training in agriculture in a very disciplined environment.

“Everything here is new.

“I am going into farming on a large scale immediately after completing this programme and I will definitely contribute to food security in my community and state at large”, Soyiga said.

Samuel Oluwatoyin Dorcas, a student of Crop production from Ikorodu North LCDA, described the training as an eye opener.

“It is awesome, eye opening, full of practical and it’s very explanatory. Everyone should be able to start something from here”, she said.

“A lot of new things have been learnt. I have learnt how to farm and produce better and I intend to start Green – House farming, Ugwu, Plantain and tomatoes.

“This is a very impactful training and in my little way, I will give back to the society and help farmers to do better and make Ikorodu a better place”, she pledged.

Oguntade Adebola Aliu, who is studying Animal Husbandry and Crop production, speaking with THE IMPACT, said:

“This is a very good experience and I have learnt a lot. I have learnt a lot of methodologies which will help to prevent harvest loss”, she said.

“I have learnt how to do proper brooding in poultry and l will apply what I have learnt in practical farming to help those that are farming in the wrong way too”, she added.

“The programme is highly impactful”.
