Sen. Seye Ogunlewe, former Minister of Works.

Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe has ascribed politicking and bad leadership as the reasons for the abandonment of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) that he facilitated for his home – town when he was the Minister of Works under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The project, which was about 80% completed when it was abandoned about 13 years ago, is yet to receive any attention while there is no trace of the equipment and drugs supplied and placed in the care of the council for the use of the medical facility when completed.

Ogunlewe made the statement while reacting to a story titled, ‘Residents Charge Sen. Abiru, Hon. Benson On Abandoned Federal Medical Centre In Igbogbo”, published on Thursday, February 18, 2021, on our online platforms.

All efforts by our reporter to reach the former Senator for his reaction before the story was published were unsuccessful.

However, while speaking with THE IMPACT on the issue, he alleged that politics and corrupt leadership were the reasons the project was abandoned.

Meanwhile, speaking with Mr Enitan Olukotun, the media aide to Senator Abiru, on phone, he said that he will be doing more findings to enable him know more about the project.

“You know that that is a project of about 20 years or so. We are going to be looking into the project to know what to do. The truth is that the Senator will be glad to see that such a project is completed and serve the people of Igbogbo, Ikorodu and Lagos East in general”, he said.

“Lagos East is blessed to have such a man as its representatives and he is committed to delivering his promises.

He added that the Senator, who was recently elected to the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, has been implementing his electoral promises by providing financial support for vulnerable constituents across the Senatorial District among others.
