Santiago Raiders (Alpha Galleon), 2020 Galleon Masters Cup Champions

Santiago Raiders have won the 6th edition of the Galleon Masters Cup beating Benija Bombers, a two – time champion of the annual tournament organised by the State Chairman of the BAN-BC72 Alpha Galleon.

The highly interesting and entertaining final match was played at Elegbata mini – stadium, Apongbon, Lagos Island, on Sunday, December 6, 2020.

Santiago Raiders won the match by 2-1 to stop Benija from winning the championship for the third time and won N30, 000 prize money as champions.

The champions were also presented a gold trophy and medals, while the first runners – up received N20, 000 and silver cup.

Eight chapters (Frigates) of the Alpha Galleon in the state took part in the colorful tournament. They are Atlanta Frigate, Barbados Frigate, Balearic Frigate, Benija Frigate, Santorini Frigate, Santiago Frigate, Tasmania Frigate and Tortuga Frigate.

In the third-place match played before the final, Tasmania Submarines beat Atlanta Looters 2 – 0, to win the bronze cup and cash prize of N10, 000.

Speaking with Comrade Olalekan ‘Rado’ Pelumi, the Chairman of the Tortuga Frigate, Ikorodu chapter of the Alpha Galleon, he said that the annual event is meant to sustain friendship and networking amongst members of the group.

“The annual event is to foster love amongst our groups in all the local government chapters in Lagos”, he said.

“It is also an avenue to network among our wives and children”, he added.

He further said that aside fostering cooperation and friendliness amongst members of the Alpha Galleon, the group also engages in humanitarian and community development activities.

Olalekan commended the State Chairman of the Alpha Galleon for the success of this year’s tournament and members for the way and manner they exhibited friendship and cooperation during the one-day championship.

In the first semi final of the tournament, Benija Bombers beat Atlanta Looters 1 – 0, while Tasmania Submarines and Santiago Raiders played 1 – 1 in the second semi – final match and  Sanatiago Raiders went on to win 3 – 2 in the penalty shootouts.
