Agunbiade at his Lagos Assembly office on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

The Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the representative of Ikorodu Constituency I, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, has been commended for facilitating the ongoing rehabilitation of Sekumade road in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area.

Representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), in the council gave the commendation when the team paid a courtesy visit to the ranking lawmaker at his Lagos Assembly office on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

They also sympathised with him on the recent invasion of his house by hoodlums during the #EndSARS violence that rocked the state a few weeks back and expressed their condemnation over the incident.

Also at the visit, Hon. Agunbiade was appointed by the youth group as its Chief Adviser/Mentor in recognition of his effort in developing youths and Ikorodu Constituency I that he has been representing since 2007.

Comrade Asoro Abubakri Olatunji, the Coordinator of NYCN, Ikorodu West LCDA, who led the delegation, stated that the visitation became necessary to thank the lawmaker for his relentless efforts toward calling the attention of the state government to the reconstruction of Sekumade road.

Asoro noted that the road is a strategic road not only for Ikorodu West LCDA, but for the whole of Ikorodu Division because of its accessibility and connectivity with about three Councils in the division.

“Sir, on behalf of Ikorodu West LCDA youths, we commend you for your relentless efforts towards the reconstruction of Oba Sekumade Road in Ipakodo, which is ongoing” Asoro said.

“The road is very strategic connecting other councils within the Ikorodu Division.

“We are also here to show solidarity on the unfortunate incident that led to the looting and destruction of your house. It is highly regrettable. We also want to congratulate you on your 50th birthday”, he added.

He expressed confidence that the lawmaker would ensure that youths within Ikorodu West LCDA will be duly engaged during the reconstruction work.

In this regard, the group submitted a list comprising names of prospective youths that are qualified for labour work on the construction site, to the lawmaker.

“Sir, we have here a list of youths who have shown interest in working as labourers on the road. The list will be submitted to Arab Contractors and we hope that you also help push it”

The visit also afforded the youths the opportunity to discuss their programs and work plan with the lawmaker.

“When we assumed office, our first programme was targeted at ending cultism in Ikorodu West LCDA. While we were doing that, some of them (cultists) approached us and told us they are also tired of belonging to secret cults but like you thought us sir, that an idle hand is the devil’s workshop…

“What we have decided to do is to launch a job portal to get the list of all unemployed youths in Ikorodu West LCDA. When this is done, a copy will be submitted to all our political office holders including you and we hope that you will give it your consideration”, Asoro said.

In his response, Hon. Agunbiade commended the leadership of NYCN in Ikorodu West LCDA for finding it necessary to visit him during the period he described as ‘critical’.

He appreciated their work plan while also expressing confidence in the crop of leadership at the local chapter of the Council.

“Whenever you are writing a letter, such as the one that you wrote to the Arab Contractors, always ensure to copy all your representatives, council chairman and other political office holders. Arab Contractors do not know you but they know your representatives, so when you copy them, Arab Contractors can easily contact them to confirm” Hon Agunbiade said to the NYCN leaders that visited him.

“The idea of your job portal is beautiful and you can always count on my support. I want to commend your leadership style” the lawmaker commended Comrade Asoro.

Agunbiade, however, encouraged the youths to tow the path of the law in demanding for their rights and also told them that it’s necessary that they shun cultism and all other types of social vices.
