Mr Femi Adinlewa, PDP Publicity Secretary, Ikorodu LG (left) and other Stakeholders at the Constituency Meeting.

The major opposition party in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has condemned the invasion and attack on the homes of the chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest.

This was contained in the position of the party in Ikorodu at the Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting in Constituency I held at the 700 – Seater Hall, Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu main campus, on Thursday, October 29, 2020.

Mr Femi Adinlewa, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Ikorodu, made the party’s position on the wilful invasion, known to THE IMPACT in a chat.

The party’s position was tagged, “PDP’s Position on Constituency Stakeholders’ meeting themed, ‘Post COVID – 19 Pandemic: The Challenges and Prospects’.

“Our party, the PDP, condemn the looting of the homes of the APC chieftains in Ikorodu, especially the damage done at the Hon S.O.B. Agunbiade’s residence. We distance ourselves from such barbaric act”,  he said.

He said that the Covid – 19 pandemic caused serious damage in the county due to the negligence by the APC government led by President Muhammadu Bihari at the centre.

“The pandemic struck in Nigeria due to the negligence of the Federal Government headed by His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari by not closing the Airports and land borders on time”.

The image maker of the opposition party also alleged that the ruling party also failed to cater for its citizenry during the pandemic lockdown, adding that only members of the APC were provided support when it was made available.

“The Government failed to cater for the citizenry during this hard time. The palliatives were not enough and the majority of what were made available were given to APC leaders and members who were neither vulnerable or needy, thereby neglecting the supposed major people that are supposed to benefit”.

He said that palliatives should have be given to all and sundry and due recognition given to the youths and all political parties.

He called for the total implementation of the demands made by the #EndSARS protesters, while adding that the report of the 2014 National Conference should also be implemented.

“Government should implement all the demands of the #EndSARS protesters immediately. They should also start to implement the report of the 2014 National Conference; the best National conference in the history of Nigeria organised by the PDP administration led by His Excellency Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

He also charged government at all levels to focus on youth empowerment to reduce insecurity and re – engineer the economy.

“Government should provide employment for all the youths. They should constantly organise youth empowerment programmes for our youths and also handsomely remunerated them”.

Adinlewa also charged that the government should, as a matter of urgency,  provide adequate security in Ikorodu division.

While expressing his concern over the effects of the COVID – 19 pandemic and violence that followed the #EndSARS protest in the state, the PDP Publicity Secretary called on the government to provide support for businesses that are affected by the two occurrences.
