Abosan Forum Wins NYCN Inaugural Table Tennis Tournament

-As Daini defeats Fathiu in ceremonial match

Bemi Ogunsowo, who represented the Abosan Forum in Igbogbo township, on Sunday, August 16, 2020, beat his opponent in the maiden edition of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) branch, Table Tennis  tournament.

At the final, which was played at the Millennium Housing Estate, Ibeshe, Bemi defeated his opponent, Taiwo Obayomi , who represented Oseni Street in igbogbo township, in three straight set 11 – 8, 14 – 12 and 11 – 9, to emerge victorious in the final match which  was witnessed by the a cheering spectators which included the chairmen of the Igbogbo/Bayeku and Ijede Local Council  Development Areas (LCDA), Hon. Sesan Daini and Hon. Fathiu Salisu respectively.

The tournament was organized in commemoration of the 2020 International Youth Day.

In the ceremonial match which preceded the final match and played between the two Council Chairmen, Builder Daini, who was the Chief host, had a great display as he defeated his Ijede counterpart who also put up a skillful  display, in two straight sets 21 – 16 and 21 – 12.

Among other teams that participated in the tournament were Igbogbo Students’ Union (ISU), NASFAT, Itun – Nla, Itungbodo, Ibeshe and Bayeku.

Azeez Ijeni beat his opponent, Owolabi Azeez, in two sets to in the 3rd place match played on Saturday (yesterday) to claim the third position.

Also, NYCN Igbogbo had staged a successful online lecture on the theme, “Youth Engagement for Global Action”, and also unveiled the Basketball court at the Igbogbo Youth Centre, which  was renovated by the a basketball team (lgbogbo Warriors) based in the community, to mark the annual celebration  held between 14th and 16th of August.

The Coordinator, NYCN Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Comrade Odusanya A.O (TySleek), speaking at the final event, commended the finalists and other participants that entered for the tournament.

He also commended the two Chairmen for not only gracing the occasion, but also added colour to it with their exciting displays during the ceremonial match.

In an chat with THE IMPACT, Odusanya  said that the prize gift and certificates would  be presented to the winner of the Table  Tennis event at a later date.

Other dignitaries that attended the final event were Hon. Ola Ameen Apanisile, Vice Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Alogba, Vice Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Comrade Olalekan Biliaminu Sulaimon-Oba, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, Mr Lekan Aroyewun, a Tax Consultant and youth leader and Mr Oluwakemi Hassan (Bashexy), Senior Legislative Aide, National Assembly among others.
