Ayangbure, PS Charge New MD To Take General Hospital, Ikorodu To Greater Height

The new Medical Director of the General Hospital, Ikorodu, Dr Taiwo K. Hassan, has been charged by the Ayangbure of Ikorodu Kingdom and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Lagos State, to take the hospital to greater heights.

Dr Taiwo Hassan, on Thursday, June 11,2020, took over the leadership of the General Hospital, Ikorodu, as the new Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer from Dr (Mrs) Adenike Odubiyi who retired same day.

The new MD/CEO adopted a new name, “Omobowale’ during the ceremony marking his official resumption.

It was a rousing welcome for the new MD/CEO who had served in many hospitals and rose to the position of Deputy Medical Director of the General Hospital, Ikorodu, before being transferred to Ebute-Metta Comprehensive Health Centre as Medical Director.

Staff of the hospital who were disturbed with the retirement of Dr Odubiyi whom many of them described as a mother and good leader, took solace in the appointment of Dr Hassan whom many of them had worked with before and attested that he would maintain the achievements of the outgone MD and take the general hospital back to the greatness it was known for.

The Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Kabir Adewale Shotobi, gave his charge when the duo of Dr Hassan and Dr Odubiyi visited him with their entourage on Thursday for his blessings.

Oba Shotobi commended Dr Odubiyi for good work done during her stay at the General Hospital, Ikorodu, which has been described as the best in Lagos State, and other places she had served over the years.

He prayed for good life for her after retirement.

The royal father, while also praying for the new MD, whom he described as his son, a for successful tenure, also charged him to deliver by making the medical facility great again.

Dr Benjamen Eniayewun, the Permanent Secretary(PS), Health Service Commission, speaking at the sendforth ceremony for Dr Odubiyi at the General Hospital, charged Dr Hassan to always consult and carry other members of the hospital management and staff along in decision making.

He charged him to always consult widely and never think that being the boss, he has best solutions to everything.

“Ikorodu General Hospital is the number one in Lagos and Ikorodu town is highly populated. You cannot be working like a one-man battalion. You have to work smart, you have to work with all your staff, nobody should be left behind”, the Permanent Secretary advised.

“I know that you have made some exploits at Ebute Metta and in other places that you had served earlier, but now that you are in Ikorodu, you will make great exploits”, he charged.

“You have to listen to everybody, even the ‘aluta’ doctors, to make things work, but l am sure there is no more ‘aluta’ again.

While stating that the emergence of Dr Hassan as the new Mmedical Director of the General Hospital, Ikorodu, has been made possible against all odds, the Permanent Secretary charged him to prove critics wrong by taking the hospital to a greater height.

“What some people thought cannot be made possible is now possible.

“Ikorodu people are expecting so much from you and Kabiyesi has also said that at the palace. You must deliver and take Ikorodu to a greater height.  You have no choice than to make this hospital great.

He charged all the staff of the hospital to cooperate and support the new MD so that they all can achieve success.

Dr Hassan also assured staff of the hospital that their inputs will be welcomed at any time while also seeking their cooperation to make the hospital greater.

Odukoya, Publisher of Oriwu Sun, Alhaji Monzor Olowosago, Pastor Remi Ajalogun, husband of the immediate  past MD/CEO, General Hospital, Ikorodu, Dr Odubiyi, the Deputy Medical Director, Dr S. Okudero and Chairman, Lagos Medical Directors’ Forum, Dr Adebite among many others.
