We Are In Full Compliance With Government’s Directive On COVID–19 – State Vice Chairman, RTEAN

Mr Omole Segun ‘Pero’, the State Vice Chairman, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), has urged transport workers and other residents in the state to cooperate with the Lagos State Government in its efforts to combat the spread of Coronavirus.

The RTEAN chieftain, who spoke with THE IMPACT in an interview, also assured that members of the union are complying totally with the government’s directive on lockdown.

“Well, those in government are well positioned to know so many things and they have told us about COVID – 19 and as good citizens, we have to accept their directives which are in the interest of everyone”, RTEAN Chieftain stated.

“It is important to accept and honour the government’s directive by staying at home. In my street, I have been able to give relief materials to people that are affected by the lockdown based on my capacity.

“The state government has also provided food items through the local councils to assist those that cannot afford to feed themselves”.

Speaking on the compliance of the members of the union to the directives given by the government regarding COVID-19, Mr Omole stated that transport workers are complying with the directives because of the education that the leadership of the union has imparted in them.

“It is compulsory for us transporters to fully comply with the government’s directives because we do not have another means of living except this job which is under government regulations. We have educated all our members. We cannot fight the government but abide with rules and regulations set by the government.

“We have always told our members that government is supreme and they must respect and abide with its dictates. We have been telling them to sit at home as directed because the Coronavirus that is spreading is vey deadly. May we not contact it. Amen”, he prayed.

“Those in government at all levels have been providing food items and money for us at interval so that people can sit at home and do not go out to contact the virus.

“If you get to Ikorodu garage, none of our members is working. They agreed with me when I spoke with them and they are complying fully. Various chairmen in our zone too are also trying by providing food items and money for our members affected by the lockdown”, he said.
