Pa Owolabi’s Death: Community Journalists In lkorodu Pay Condolence Visit To Family Of Late Veteran Broadcaster

Community media practitioners under the aegis of the Ikorodu Community Media Practitioners (IKOCOMP) on today, Tuesday, January 14, 2020, visited the widow of the late veteran journalist, Pa Tunji Owolabi, who died on Sunday, January 5, 2020.

Pa Owolabi, 82, was a reporter with Radio Lagos/Eko FM, covering Ikorodu Division, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki axis of Lagos State.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Kunle Adelabu, the Coordinating Scribe and the Reporter-in-Chief, THE IMPACT Newspaper, expressed IKOCOMP’s condolence to the widow, Mrs Modupe Owolabi and other family members and also acknowledged Pa Owolabi’s contributions to journalism.

“Although, I have been here before to condole with the family on the death of the veteran broadcaster and mentor to many of us on behalf of community media practitioners in Ikorodu, but we are here today as a group to honour our departed veteran, leader, friends, mentor, senior colleague and outstanding broadcaster who practiced journalism till his last breadth.

“We are here to identify with the family at this the unfortunate period.

“We hope that the entirety of Ikorodu Division will also identify with the family because while alive, Pa Owolabi was the voice of the Division at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM”, he added.

The pioneer editor and publisher in Ikorodu Division, Prince Ganny Awobajo, while also speaking, enjoined the widow of the late journalist to take heart and rejoice in the fact her husband lived a good life with commitment and dedication.

Prince Awobajo, who is the Publisher of Ikorodu News, also recalled his encounter with the late Pa Owolabi at his last assignment.

“I saw him at his last assignment at the commissioning of Oriwu Central Mosque and I discovered that he looked sickly which he confirmed to me.

“It was unfortunate when I heard from our colleagues that he was late. He was a good journalist who was dedicated to his profession while alive. We are going to miss him”.

Members of the group assured the deceased widow that they will be participating fully in the burial arrangement of late veteran broadcaster slated for March 20 and 21, 2020.
