Brookstone, K-Success Schools Emerge Spelling Bee, Dancing Competitions Winners In Ikorodu

It was yet another exciting moment of learning experience combined with memorable cultural and social activities on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, as hundreds of students from schools  in and outside Ikorodu Division gathered to compete, participate and unwind at the second edition of the Spelling Bee Competition organized by the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS), in conjunction with Ella Anan (Aunty Fowoke).

At the educative and engaging gathering , which was part of the activities marking  the 2019 Ikorodu-Oga Day Carnival , Master Chukwudi Chibuzor of Brookstone Best Brain International School, Idera, emerged the winner of the 2019 edition of Spelling Bee which  was keenly contested by the participants.

Chukwudi was presented with a gold trophy with various gift items for the feat.

Master Amaechi Azukogu of Mavi Gold School, Igbo-Agbowa, and Miss Deborah Chima of Etunrenren Primary School, Ikorodu, came second and third respectively and  were presented with silver and bronze trophies respectively.

The event was held at the Regal Hall Open Ground, Olu-Odo, in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

A total of 52 public and private schools participated in the competition which witnessed exhibition of great intellect, composure and passion by competing students.

In the Choreography category, K-Success School emerged the best school while Mavi Gold School, Skytop College, Oluwatofunmi School and Jory Best Schools emerged second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.Various exciting  gift items were presented to the schools for there respective efforts.

Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, IKODASS Chairman, in his remarks at event, commended Mrs Adefowoke Adekoya  (the event planner serving as link between IKODASS and the academic environment), for her efforts in ensuring the success of the event.

He was represented at the programme by his deputy, Alhaji Fatai Kolawole.

Speaking on the forthcoming Ikorodu-Oga Day Carnival, Otunba Abiru promised indigenes, residents and visitors alike that they are in for  an experience they would not forget in a hurry in term of cultural and societal exposure and other exciting events that have been lined up for  the annual celebration.

While appreciating the sponsors of the Spelling Bee event such as Pharmatex, Cheekers and Leadway Insurance, the IKODASS Chairman also urged them to continue to support the association’s programmes to further enhance the growth and development of Ikorodu.

The Mother Of the Day at the event,  Hon. Folashade Olabanji- Oba, who is the Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, in her speech, also applauded Mrs Adekoya for putting together such an engaging event that put smiles on the faces of  the students.

She called for more of such educational programs in Ikorodu, stating that  such programs “will increase the spelling abilities of pupils and grow their intellectual capacities”.

Mrs Oba advised that the continuous mental growth of children should not be taken for granted as the children are the leaders of tomorrow.

She also thanked IKODASS for the initiative and enjoined its members to continually work together in unity for more prosperity and development in Ikorodu and its environs.

Also, some of the representatives of the sponsors that spoke at the event, were equally appreciative of IKODASS for providing educative platform and fostering partnership that give access to educational institutions in Ikorodu Division.

They also described the Spelling Bee initiative as a welcome development for their brands.

Other features  of the event were dancing and cultural display while many of the pupils and students also had a fun filled time playing with the bouncing castle and other facilities provided at the venue.
