Majidun Community Engages Young Athletes In Triathlon Competition

In order to sustain the tradition of supplying the swimming team and other sporting teams of the Lagos State with more young and capable hands, Majidun community in Ikorodu has organized a sporting competition to engage the youths in competitive activities.

This was the brain behind the maiden edition of Majidun Triathlon Competition held at the Majidun Waterfront in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) in Ikorodu division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, on Saturday, April 13, 2019.

60 young boys and 40 girls participated in the event which saw the young athletes engaging in swimming, bicycle riding and running.

The competition was organized by Pajamick Nigeria Limited and sponsored by Rear Admiral Jimi Osinowo, Chief Alex Omoyele, the Baale of Majidun and Hon. Sunday Omodunni.

The athletes were trained by Coach Ojomo, a state recognized swimming coach.

Mr Olumide Abejoye, one of the organizers, while speaking about the sporting event, stated that one of the aims of the competition is to assist in developing age-grade sports in Majidun, Ikorodu division and Lagos State.

He also stated that they intend to revive sporting activities in the community, discourage hooliganism and rebrand Majidun community as a society of people that are contributing to the social and economic developments of the state.

He commended the sponsors, Admiral Osinowo, Baale of Majidun and others for ensuring the success of the competition.

In his own speech, Admiral Osinowo commended the orgainzers and entire Majidun community for deeming it fit to engage their youths positively at tender age.

While pledging his continuous supports, the naval officer stated that sporting activities promots cooperation, friendliness and encourags good health and good living conditions.

Coach Abiodun Olowonishaye, while speaking with THE IMPACT, stated that the sporting events will be an annual event.

Some of the winners that spoke with THE IMPACT at the end of the competition expressed happiness over their participation in the event.

Adekoya Ayomide, 13 years old student of Ipakodo Junior Grammar School, stated that she felt good and proud emerging winner in the competition.

Emmanuel Orimoloye, 13 years old student of Local Government Primary School, Majidun, stated that the competition is good for their development and enjoined the organizers to make it a periodic exercise.

George Kehinde, 17 years old student of Ipakodo Senior Grammar School, also expressed her happiness for winning the competition and for also participating in the event.

Kolade Otunla, a 13 years old boy, expressed his happiness over his participation in the event and also commended the organizers and sponsors for the success of the competition.

Awards of excellence were presented to Rear Admiral Osinowo, Baale of Majidun, Chief Alex Segun 0moyele and the Vice Chairman, Lagos State Swimming Association for their contributions to the development of sports in Majidun community.
