The Chattered Institute of Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Ikorodu chapter,on Thursday, November 1,2018, held its 2nd annual seminar at the Oriwu Model College Hall, Ikorodu amidst impressive turnout.

 

The  theme for this year’s edition of the seminar was “Managing 21st Century Teachers: The Application of HR Matrics”.

Mr Olasunkade Azeez, FCIPM, the Group Head of Human Resources, Resort International Limited, delivered the keynote address on the theme.

 

In his opening address, Mr. Aregbesola Rasheed, ACIPM, Chairman, CIPM, Ikorodu branch, spoke about the challenges facing education sector and possible solutions.

 

He advocated for the development of teachers through trainings.

Mrs.Chidinma Obiejesi, MCIPM, Chairperson, CIPM, Lagos State branch, commended the Ikorodu chapter of the association for the initiative and declared the seminar opened for discussion.

 

Mr Olasunkade Azeez, FCIMP, the guest speaker, stated that the theme of the seminar was an opportunity for teachers at the event to improve and develop the schools and community at large with their knowledge.

 

While speaking on problems affecting teachers and students, he encouraged teachers to always go for advanced trainings to sharpen their skills.

 

Also, Mr Azeez stated that it is the duty of the teachers to help their students grow mentally and academically and also expose them to the positive side of life.

 

“Teachers should be creative, think critically and be a 21st century tutors with global view and always aim and learn more”, the guest speaker stated.

 

Speaking on the role of government in solving challenges confronting education, Mr  Azeez suggested the need to ensure that teachers are exposed to trainings and provision of necessary facilities  in schools for students to make use of.

He also enjoined teachers to always allow students speak their minds on any issue during classes.

 

“Government should continually sponsor teachers on trainings and provide academic equipment for public schools in Lagos State. If these are done, learning would be made easier for students”, he stated.

 

After the lecture, Mrs. Kara, The Chairman of All School Principals, led other School principals in making contributions regarding challenges confronting schools and proffered possible solutions.

Questions and answers were also entertained from the audience.

 

Awards were also given to Mr. Olasunkade Azeez, the guest lecturer, Mr Oluwafemi Fakolade, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Taechers, Ikorodu branch,  Mr Olaniyi Oye and Mr Ebenezer Olusanya, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II.
