An economist and accountant, Mr Ibrahim Olayinka Majekodunmi, has declared his intention to vie for the Ikorodu Constituency I seat at the Lagos State House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Majekodunmi, while declaring for the seat at Odogunyan, along Ikorodu-Shagamu road in Ikorodu North Local council Development Area (LCDA), promised facilitation of infrastructural facilities, agricultural development initiative, support for artisans, market women and men, educational support, empowerment for widows and aged, entrepreneurship initiative and health care initiative for his people if elected as their representative.

The aspirant was commended by the party leaders and members as well as others present at the declaration ceremony.

Hon. Majekodunmi equally promised effective lawmaking and lobbying that would address many challenges confronting the people of his constituency and Lagos State in general.

While presenting his programmes at the declaration, he stated that he would use his representation on the floor of the House to call attention to many challenges facing Ikorodu for the purpose of correcting them.

He highlighted some of the problems as bad roads and poor state of schools  across the division among others.

The aspirant, while promising qualitative legislative representation, stated:

“The poignant focus is on being proactive at all times in legislative representation while delivering timely quality feedback to the people of my constituency”, he stated.

“People in my constituency are faced with many challenges that I will use my position as your representative to address when I get to the House. I shall speak on the floor on the House for the purpose of beaming searchlights on these challenges.

“Across the division, our roads are in terrible state . This is due to the pressure caused by the population. We have more people moving into Ikorodu on daily basis and are putting pressure on the few infrastructures available with little or no attention being paid to expand them. We are been shortchanged in Ikorodu.

“The situation is same with our educational system. Many of our pupils/students attend schools far away from their places of residents because government is not providing more schools with the expanding community.

“Aside ensuring that I use my position as your representative to reverse this trend, we shall also provide school buses that would commute our students and aid their learning.

On his plan to make improved health service available to the people, he said:

“A good health fosters a sound mind and body which in turn help to boost productivity in the economy. We aim to focus on our health care facilities in all the hospitals within the constituency.

Revealing his programmes for the market men and women, Majekodunmi stated:

“If elected, we will support the artisans, market men and women to develop their businesses and also contribute to the system.

“We are also not going to left out the aged and widows in our representation. We have a scheme for the old age and citizens too. We shall provide what we termed “ounje omo”. This would help in restoring their confidence and give them sense of belonging in the constituency.

Alhaji Rilwan Jinadu, former APC Chairman in Ikorodu LGA, while speaking at the declaration, described the aspirant as a responsible man.

“Yinka Majekodunmi is a very responsible man and if I could install a person into that position, it would be Yinka and one other aspirant. The two are the most qualified for the position.

“The two are the people’s choice that can represent us very well. They have what it takes but cannot dance to the tune of some leaders which was why they called other seven aspirants to a meeting without inviting them. Those invited are surrogates.

“Your time will come when you will be recognized and in actual fact, your time has come because you are very dedicated and committed. I pray that God would give answer to your request but it may not be the position that you are aspiring for.

“I have noticed him to be very dedicated and well behaved unlike some other aspirants. That is more reason that I am honouring your invite for today’s declaration.

Prince Kunle Ogunbela, former Chairman, Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), while also speaking, described the aspirant as a humble and loyal party man.

He enjoined the aspirants not to allowed conducts of some party leaders to cause violence in the polity.

“Majekodunmi is a very humble person and committed party man. Even if you don’t want to greet him, he will greet you with enthusiasm and respect.

“You have been very consistent. Your time has come because you have worked for it. I am happy to associate with you and I believe that you have what it takes to be there.

“I want to appeal to you and other aspirants not to engage in violence. You should not allow what some leaders are doing to cause violence in the polity.

“It’s not fair that some leaders are meeting seven of the aspirants and left two out. Those leaders did same in Ikorodu North when they made an aspirant an anointed one against  seven others.

Hon. Matthew Adesanya, in his own remarks enjoined party members not to allow themselves to be used as object of violence during the elections.

“No matter who you are following among the aspirants, you cannot allow yourself to be used. Look at their programmes and characters and choose wisely”, he warned.

“I am here today because the aspirant is a dutiful, respectable and sincere young man who has been working for the community and the party. I would not have honoured if it had been some other aspirants. He and one other aspirant are the most suitable for the position.

“I did not hesitate filling and signing his nomination form when he brought it to me because of his character.

R-L, Alhaji Hassan M.D, head of Arewa community in Odogunyan, Mr Olu Omoniyi, APC Ward chairman in Ikorodu North LGA and Hon. Kunle Ogunbela, former Council Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA at the declaration

“Majekodunmi is among the two that informed me that he is contesting  among the aspirants for the Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly. This is part of the problems we are facing politically. How can I wish somebody well when he does not communicate to me that he has delivered?

“Majekodunmi and one other aspirant are the only ones that have duly informed me that they are vying for  positions. Though, we have been seeing posters around, but posters don’t make me work for you but your programmes and my conviction of your person.

“Majekodunmi is a very quiet and reserved politician.

“We have to be concern with what some of these aspirants did with their positions while serving in appointive and elected position in government before now. You know some of these people and you should be bold enough to ask them what they have done with their previous positions.

“Majekodunmi is a reliable person and that is the more reason I am present at his declaration today. He is a good person and has worked for the community.

“I am proud of you that you are the first son of Odogunyan that is vying for the Ikorodu Constituency I seat at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
