The opening match of the Ward C Zonal Gold Cup, being sponsored by the Majority Leader of Ikorodu Local Government Legislative Arm, Hon. Omotayo Awolesi, kicked-off on Saturday, July 28, 2018.

 

In the intense opening match played at the Ita-Elewa Recreational Centre, Itundofin A FC lost 0 – 2 to Itundofin B FC.

 

A total if sixteen teams are participating in the tournament which  is being organized by the Owogaff Youth Soccer Organisation.

 

In Group A are Itundofin 1A FC, Itundofin 2A FC, Ladega 1B FC and Itundomuganran FC while Group B has  Ladega 1A FC, Liworo 1B FC, Egun-Aya FC and Itunwolo 1B FC.

 

Group C compr ises of Liwe 1A FC, Liwe 1B FC, Itunwolo 1A FC and Itun-Nla 1A FC.

 

Itundomuganran 1A FC, Liworu 1A FC, Ladega 2A FC and Itun-Nla 1B FC make up the teams in group D of the tournament.

Hon Awolesi, while speaking with our reporter during the opening match,  stated that the  football tournament, which is being  played by teams in areas within Ward C  which he is representing,  is aimed at engaging the youths and promote cooperation.

 

“My aim is just to engage the youths in my area and football, over the years, has been a veritable tool in the promotion of peaceful co-existence among the youths”, he stated.

“It is also the aim of the tournament to encourage the collection of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) before the closure of the exercise. And, through this tournament we intend to reach as many youths as possible and sensitize them on the importance of PVC.

 

“The football tournament is part of my campaign promises and it’s going to be an annual tournament in my ward.

 

“Participating teams are assured of good officiating and peaceful atmosphere.

“I also want to enjoin the players, officials and spectators to endeavour to conduct their affairs within the rules of the game. We should act in ways that would make the tournament to achieve its aims and objectives.”

 

Two matches would be played on Monday, July 30. The first match is between Ladega 1B FC and Itundomuganran 1B FC while Ladega 1A FC would be engaging Liworo 1B FC in the second match of the day.

 

Among guests at the opening match were Hon. Gbenga Awobajo, Hon. Olohunwa Oshodi, Hon. Banwo Hafeez, the Ikorodu Central LGA Youth Leader and Prince Gafaar Okeshola Owogaff.
