President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday hosted aggrieved aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded party’s primaries across the country. According to report, those in attendance at the dinner included aggrieved gubernatorial, National and State Assembly aspirants who failed to secure the party’s tickets in the forthcoming 2019 general elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the forms and particulars of political parties’ candidates submitted for 2019 general elections at its offices across the federation, for the purpose of claims and objections.   The lists were displayed outside the INEC Federal Capital Territory office.   The number of the presidential candidates so far has hit 70 as at 8.20 p.m. on Thursday.   A senior officer of the commission said what the commission did was publication of forms and particulars for objection, and not lists of candidates.  …

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will not extend the deadline for submission of list of candidates’ names by political parties for the 2019 general elections. Nigeria’s political parties on Thursday resorted to last minute rush to beat the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deadline for the submission of list of candidates for the 2019 general elections.
