TRIBUTE: A MAN, A MOMENT, A MOVEMENT: CELEBRATING REP. BABAJIMI BENSON

By Olubode Mac. Oserinde

Rep. Babajimi Benson

There are men who occupy office, and there are men who define it.

There are leaders who make promises, and there are those who quietly rewrite the meaning of representation.

Today, we celebrate one of the latter – Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson.

In the evolving story of Ikorodu Division, his name does not merely appear – it anchors a chapter of transformation.

From the corridors of the National Assembly to the streets of Ikorodu, his journey has been marked by a rare clarity of purpose: that leadership must be seen, felt, and measured.

And measured it has been.

Roads that once told stories of neglect now speak the language of access and opportunity. Communities long disconnected are now linked by infrastructure that fuels commerce, dignity, and growth. It is no coincidence that many have come to describe him – not metaphorically, but factually – as the “Julius Berger of Ikorodu,” a reflection of his extensive road development footprint across the division.

But his impact does not end on asphalt.

Through legislative action, he has contributed to shaping national policy, with multiple bills successfully translated into law – a feat he himself regards as the pinnacle of legislative relevance.

Beyond the chamber, his interventions have touched the most vulnerable through initiatives like the iCare Foundation, which has supported thousands with food relief, empowerment, and opportunity.

Healthcare strengthened. Education supported.

Homes lit.

Lives elevated.

This is not abstract governance – this is practical leadership.

Yet, beyond the visible achievements lies an even more compelling dimension: the man himself.

In public, he commands respect.

Across government and private circles, he earns trust.

Among peers, he is regarded as strategic.

Among leaders, he is seen as dependable.

But at the grassroots – where leadership is tested without microphones – he is known simply as accessible.

That rare ability to move seamlessly between policy rooms and community streets is what sets true leaders apart. It is what makes influence sustainable.

In a political environment where representation is often debated, Ikorodu has, in him, experienced something different – something many communities still aspire to: A representation that works.

A representation that does not wait for election cycles to remember the people. A representation that understands that leadership is not an event, but a continuum of responsibility.

Little wonder his efforts have earned national recognition, including being named Representative of the Year, a testament to a record built not on rhetoric, but on results.

But perhaps the most remarkable thing about Hon. Babajimi Benson is this: At every stage of achievement, he has chosen more work over more noise.

Where others amplify intentions, he amplifies outcomes.

Where others seek visibility, he builds value.

And in doing so, he has not only raised the bar for representation in Ikorodu – he has quietly redefined what is possible.

To us, beyond the titles and public perception, he is more than a leader.

He is a builder of people.

A giver of opportunities.

A boss who leads with both expectation and example.

Working with him is not just about service – it is about growth, discipline, and understanding the deeper meaning of responsibility.

AS HE ADDS ANOTHER YEAR…

We do not just celebrate the passage of time.

We celebrate:

 A legacy still unfolding

 A vision still expanding

 A capacity that continues to deepen

Because some men grow older – but a few grow more relevant.

He belongs to the latter.

As you mark this new chapter, Sir,

May God grant you greater wisdom than your years, strength beyond your responsibilities, and clarity above every complexity.

May your path continue to align with purpose, your influence expand with grace, and your impact multiply across generations.

May the work of your hands endure, may the goodwill you have sown speak for you in places you have not yet entered, and may history be kind in recording your journey.

And when the future calls for higher responsibility, may you be found ready – with capacity, with favour, and with divine backing.

Happy Birthday, Sir.
