Agitation from Ikorodu Division demanding for the Governorship of Lagos State position come 2027, has heightened as more individuals and groups across the division are now declaring their support for the demand.

The latest voice in the clamouring call being a former Permanent Secretary/Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, who called on residents of Ikorodu Division to resist what he termed systemic oppression of Ikorodu people.

In a chat with The IMPACT Otunba Abiru who was also a former Chairman, Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS) and now serving as the Executive Secretary, Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited (IDPIL), said that it would be a cowardly act if the division accepted to be denied the position again.

“The news flying around even though for now is in the realm of speculation, it will be wrong and cowardly of us in lkorodu Division, if we keep quiet and remain docile in the event that lkorodu is schemed out of desire to occupy the Governors’ office.”

While emphasising that Ikorodu Division has been loyal to the ruling APC, the community developer also said that the division has not been well compensated for the act.

He urged residents of Ikorodu to withdraw their trust from the ruling party if it failed to consider the division to produce the next Governor of Lagos State.

“IKORODU has been loyal to APC for ages, but we have not really been given what is commensurate with our input and unalloyed loyalty to the success of the party.

“Honestly, we need to take a stand against this tyrannical subjugation. I am not unaware that some of us reading this missive don’t usually vote, but we have influence on some of our family members.

“The time to make a change and resist this oppression which has always been meted to us is NOW.

“If APC does not find us worthy of the Governor’s post, we also should see the political party as one not to be entrusted with the destiny of our people by refusing to vote for it in the next election.

“Our mumu don do,” Otunba Abiru said.
