Ikorodu Constituency II Rep, Hon. Aro Moshood Tours Facilitated Drainage Systems

-Says efforts gear towards ensuring flood free communities

To prevent against another flooding experience that ransacked several areas of Ijede Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) and other communities in Ikorodu Constituency II about two years ago, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), on Thursday toured the ongoing construction of critical drainages that connects Igbopa, Palm Avenue and Abule Eko/Powerline in Ijede LCDA.

At various points visited, there are massive drainage constructions going on to address the challenges that confronted residents of Ijede which lost properties worth several millions to serious flood in 2024.

He toured the projects along with Engr. Sunday Omoniyi, the engineer from the Office of Drainage Service, Ministry of Environment & Water Resources who is incharge of drainage system in Ikorodu.

The Palm Avenue drainage which started at community junction facing the Lagos State Housing Estate will be extended down to Igbopa, the drainage system will also connect the one going from Palm Avenue down to Abule -Eko/Powerline.

Another drainage system visited was another massive construction at Bagudan in Mowo -Nla in Ikorodu Constituency I. The drain when completed will serve as a collector drain for the Mowo -Nla main road which is under construction through the efforts of the representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson.

This particular drain is also expected to collect water from AP and other areas along Gbodu/Gberigbe/Agura road.

Residents at various locations visited expressed their satisfactions and commended the lawmaker for listening to their yearnings.

In the same vein, the tour team also visited the Gbodu junction’s canal where residents have also been facing hell because diversion of water into the swamp in their community by the Arab Construction.

Some of the residents at the Gbodu junction community that joined the team on inspection thanked Hon. Aro Moshood for his efforts in facilitating the drainage system which they described as a good measure to address their challenges whenever its raining.

They said that flood always flow above their foundation and into their homes whenever it rains.

They pleaded with the lawmaker to ensure that the project is completed before rain starts.

Meanwhile, Hon. Aro has commended the state of several drainage construction stating that they are to permanently addressed the issue of flood in Ijede and other parts of Ikorodu.

He said that he is working with the ministry to ensure that the construction works are completed before rain start this year.

Aro also stated that he will be touring other drainages and other projects that he facilitated in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA soon.
