The Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omo’ba Hameed Olalekan Aroyewun, on Tuesday, hosted the First Lady of Lagos, Her Excellency, Dr (Mrs) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo -Olu, during a working visit to the Community Women’s Rights Foundation (CWRF) located at Selewu in Igbogbo.

Aroyewun, alongside his wife, Mrs Silifa Aroyewun, welcomed the First Lady who was accompanied by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO).

The visit, according to the Chief Press Secretary to Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Chairman, Oiuwaseun Ajayi, forms part of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the First Lady of Lagos State’s continued advocacy for the protection of women and girls across Lagos State and Nigeria. It was aimed at strengthening support for the Foundation’s interventions, deepening collaboration, and reinforcing the fight against rape, domestic abuse, and all forms of gender-based violence (GBV) in IBLCDA, Lagos State and the nation at large.

Founded in 2011 by Mr Lateef Akinborode, the Community Women’s Rights Foundation remains at the forefront of gender-rights advocacy, providing critical services such as survivor support, mediation, counselling, case documentation, and direct assistance in police and court processes to ensure justice and safety for victims.

During the visit, the First Lady commended Chairman Aroyewun and his wife, Mrs. Silifa Aroyewun, for their commitment to social welfare and their remarkable leadership within the short period of the administration. She applauded the IBLCDA for creating an enabling environment where such humanitarian initiatives can thrive and for prioritising the protection of vulnerable groups.

Her Excellency further praised the director and volunteers of CWRF for their dedication to confronting the menace of gender-based violence and for offering hope to survivors through their consistent, courageous work.

He noted that her presence serves as a major encouragement to the Foundation and volunteers as they intensify efforts to safeguard women and girls in IBLCDA.

The chairman also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening partnerships with institutions and civil society groups towards championing justice. In particular, the council chairman assures that the fight against rape and violence against women will remain a top priority in the administration’s agenda.

Also speaking, Mr Akinborode thanked the First Lady and her team for the visit, adding that the visit will serve as further motivation to continue to protect the rights of women and others in need.
