The Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Authority (LCDA) authority has appealed to residents of the council over the persistent power outage being experienced across various communities within the council, which is badly affecting social and economic lives.
Some of these communities have been in darkness for months, a situation which led to a protest by the leadership of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, to the Ikorodu Business District of Ikeja Electric, some weeks ago.
In a statement on Saturday, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Oluwaseun Ajayi, he explained efforts by his boss in ensuring that residents get adequate power supply. He stated that the council chairman, Omoba Hameed Aroyewun, has met with the leadership of the IE at its headquarters in Ikeja, in a bid to know the problem and find ways of solving it.

“The leadership of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA) acknowledges the concerns expressed by residents, regarding the persistent power outage affecting communities in our council area. We understand the discomfort and disruptions this situation has caused for homes, businesses, and daily activities. We sincerely appreciate every resident who has raised genuine concerns on the outage.
“It is important to clarify that the ongoing electricity challenge is largely connected to issues arising from the national grid, as explained by officials of Ikeja Electric. The limitations have significantly reduced power supply to many areas across Lagos State, including IBLCDA.
“To ensure that electricity supply is restored to affected communities in IBLCDA, the chairman of the council, Omoba Hammed Aroyewun, recently visited the headquarters of Ikeja Electric, where he had an extensive meeting with the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Folake Soetan.

“During the engagement, the chairman reiterated the frustrations of our people and emphasised the need for immediate actions. In response, the CEO assured him that the company is working round the clock to restore supply and that residents should expect improvement soon.
“Furthermore, during the peaceful protest staged by the Community Development Committee (CDC) on November 11th, 2025, at the Alogba Business Unit, the CDC representatives were informed that the 150 MVA power transformer at Egbin, which supplies electricity to numerous areas, including ours, developed a major fault.
“They also revealed that arrangements are already underway to procure a new 300 MVA transformer from Germany, to replace the faulty one. Once installed, this is expected to significantly improve power distribution to all communities in IBLCDA”.

The statement further stated that the chairman is maintaining constant communication with the IE to ensure that residents have access to regular power supply.
He also urged that people should disregard untrue statements that the council and the CDC have been inactive over the matter.
“The council chairman and the CDC have remained in constant communication with Ikeja Electric, to ensure that their promises are fulfilled and to receive timely updates. At no point has the administration relented or ignored the concerns of the people. In line with his commitment to ensuring quality communal living, the chairman is following up with Ikeja Electric on a regular basis.
“We, therefore, appeal to residents to disregard any misleading narrative suggesting that the chairman or the CDC has been inactive or indifferent to the situation. Such claims do not reflect the ongoing engagements, sacrifices, or the realities on ground. The truth is that the administration has intensified efforts to restore electricity to the affected areas.

“The chairman remains fully committed and responsive to the welfare of the people. And the HOA led-administration is bent on advancing developmental projects across all socio-economic sectors, to promote the well-being of our people”, the council authority assured residents.
While appreciating residents’ cooperation and understanding, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA authority also released a dedicated line they can call to verify or confirm any issue.
“Residents are encouraged to continue to channel any concern, observation, or verified information to our official communication line: 09156491725, and social media handles. This will help us respond promptly and remain fully informed about the community’s requests/needs”.
