The drive towards innovative local government administration in Africa as a whole received a boost at the Local Government Chairmen Leadership Conference on Wednesday, as the Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omo’ba Hameed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), seized the opportunity to share his thoughts on leadership and his administration’s agenda as it affects youth development and creates social harmony.

At the conference, which is a platform committed to nurturing future-ready leaders through education, innovation, enterprise, and community-driven governance, Omo’ba Aroyewun engaged with a large cross section of corps members and visionary young people on leadership and public governance.

The session took place at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka-Yaba, Lagos.

He said that the passion and curiosity of the audience reaffirmed the indispensable role that informed leadership plays in building resilient and thriving communities.

“I emphasised the importance of being informed, as access to the right knowledge guides effective planning, enables better decision-making, and strengthens capacity to deliver sustainable development at the grassroots.

“I also highlighted the indispensable role of the youth in the society. In Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), we have continued to actively engage, mentor, and empower young people — ensuring they develop the confidence, capacity, and clarity needed to thrive and become the shining lights of tomorrow. Their energy, creativity, and resilience remain central to our developmental vision,” he said.

While stating that his administration’s agenda aligns with that of the Renewed Hope of President Bola Tinubu and that of Governor Babajide Sanwo – Olu, Aroyewun also said that he plans on sustaining good governance through strong institutions and sustained opportunity creation.

“Furthermore, I shared insights on how our Strategic GLORY Agenda complements Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Initiatives and the Lagos State Governor’s THEMES+ Agenda, particularly in the areas of social development and community welfare. This synergy has enabled us to begin to deliver people-focused initiatives that promise to enhance the quality of life within IBLCDA.

“I am proud of the work we are doing and grateful for platforms like this that continue to spotlight transformative leadership and community impact. Together, we will keep building structures, opportunities, and systems that secure a brighter future for our people.”
