Lagos Assembly Visits Igbogbo PHC, Assures Of Govt’s Commitment To Strengthen Primary Healthcare

The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Health, has assured the grassroots people in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the government’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare across the state.

Members of the committee gave the assurance when they visited the Igbogbo Primary Health Centre at Agbele, Igbogbo, at the weekend for an assessment and evaluation of existing healthcare facilities in the council area, and ongoing state projects within the Primary Health Centre (PHC).

The Committee’s visit was part of its statutory oversight responsibilities aimed at ensuring the strengthening of healthcare delivery across Lagos State.

Led by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Lawal Aina Musibau (Apapa II) and accompanied by Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (Ikorodu II), the delegation was warmly received by the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, alongside the Vice Chairman, Barr. Ade Ayeni, Chief of Staff; Hon. Wasiu Oluwu, at the Council Secretariat before proceeding to the Primary Health Centre.

At the facility, the lawmakers carried out a comprehensive on-site inspection of the ongoing state projects, reviewing structural upgrades, facility expansions, medical equipment installations, and other enhancements designed to improve service delivery.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Oluwaseun Ajayi, the team also evaluated the condition of existing facilities, the staffing structure, and the readiness of the centre to accommodate increased patient activities once the upgrades are completed.

Speaking during the inspection, the Committee Chairman emphasized the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare as a critical foundation for an effective health system. The committee also reaffirmed the Assembly’s determination to ensure accountability, quality assurance, and value for taxpayers’ investments in all state-funded health projects.

The Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Chairman, Omo’ba Aroyewun, described the visit as timely and encouraging, noting that the improvements at the PHC will significantly enhance maternal and child healthcare, emergency response, immunization services, and outpatient care for the people of Igbogbo, Baiyeku, and surrounding communities.

He assured the Committee of the LCDA’s full cooperation, and reiterated that his administration remains committed to advancing the GLORY agenda, particularly in the health sector.

The visit was concluded with an interactive engagement between the Committee members, the Chairman and the healthcare personnel, where operational updates, ongoing challenges, and areas requiring further support, were discussed.

Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with state institutions to ensure accessible, reliable, and people-centered healthcare services for all residents.
