The representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson, has described the two years administration of President Bola Tinubu has being a fantastic one economically and infrastructurally, emphasising that it has given financial muscle to the Local Government administration in the country.

Rep. Benson who is also the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Defence, pointed out that President Tinubu’s tax reform initiative which he described as the main highlight of his administration would give more financial power to the local government administration.

The lawmaker presented these positions during an interview with reporters at the quarterly stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday at his constituency office in Ikorodu.

“Ah, it has been fantastic! For me, the highlight of his (PBAT) administration has been the passage of the Tax Bill. The tax bill gives so many resources in the hands of local governments because the VAT will be based on location and consumption.

“Therefore, money that was ordinarily going straight to the Federal Government is now restricted to local governments and if the local governments are strong and powerful, they’ll be able to take over infrastructural and poverty issues, and they’ll be able to live up to expectations, right? So, nobody is talking about that.

“A trickle-down effect on that alone will get a lot of people out of poverty. That’s my biggest highlight,” Rep. Benson posited.

Speaking on the infrastructural impacts of Tinubu’s administration, the three – term lawmaker cited the ongoing Lagos – Calabar Coastal Road and Badagry – Sokoto Road projects and unimaginable infrastructural developments, as well as the numerous strategic roads that he has been facilitating in the last two years across the Ikorodu Federal Constituency.

He also revealed that the Ita – Oluwo to Agbede Road’s construction would commence soon.

“Then, infrastructurally, connecting Lagos to Calabar is no mean feat. Connecting Badagry to Sokoto is no mean feat. It’s the ideas and vision of a very strong person who has a powerful vision. Just imagine you thinking you can connect Lagos to Calabar and implement it straight away. So, in terms of infrastructure, we are doing very well.

“Also, infrastructurally, if you look at my constituency we’re adding a lot of value. We’re bringing a lot of projects to Ikorodu. We’re almost running up on the Offin /Oreta Road, which I believe is longer than the Ikorodu Garage to Ojota Road. That Road is about 14 km. We’re going to start the 7 km Ita – Oluwo to Agbede Road.

“Agbede holds a very special place in my heart because, anytime we vote, they always turn out the biggest vote, and it is unimaginable that we don’t have a federal road there. The road there is really, really bad. For these reasons, we’re trying to connect the dots. We’re bringing the dividends of democracy from Abuja down to Ikorodu, and they’re going to get a lot more, and this is all due to the power and grace of Mr. President.”
