The Chair, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA) and the National Mass Education Commission (NMEC) and the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education team have exhorted residents of the council on the need to register for the out – of – school enrolment which offers second chance at acquiring education and skills.
The committee overseeing the comprehensive needs assessment and mapping of learners across selected communities in Lagos State on Tuesday, visited Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA). They were received by the Executive Chairman, Omo’ba Aroyewun, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, represented by Odofin Tajudeen Onasanya, the Odofin of Igbogbo and other chiefs at the Adeboruwa Palace.

The registration exercise which started on Monday will end on Saturday. Interested applicants are enjoined to register at the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA secretariat and the Rotary Vocational Centre in Igbogbo.
Ikorodu Division Mass Education Programme team was led by Prince Kasali Adeniran Waheed, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, with him, were Mrs Oluwakemi Yetunde Kalesanwo, Director, Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, and Mr Adelani Akinpelu, representing the National Agency for Mass Education, as well as Mr Mustapha Ibrahim, Director, Monitoring and Investigation.
Omo’ba Aroyewun said that the initiative offered those that missed proper learning another chance to acquire education and skills and get themselves empowered.

“Earlier today at the Adeboruwa Palace, we embraced a renewed promise for our people, a second chance at education, skills, and empowerment for those who may have missed it the first time.
“The initiative aims to open new doors of literacy, skills acquisition, and entrepreneurship for every resident aged 15 and above. This is about restoring dignity, unlocking opportunities, and preparing our communities across Ikorodu Division for sustainable growth. With accurate data, government resources can be better channelled to ensure that no one is left behind,” he said.
While also stating that the traditional institution has given their total support for the exercise, Omo’ba Aroyewun charged concerned individuals in Ikorodu Division and Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA in particular to take advantage of the opportunity.

“We also received the assurance of our traditional institutions, who have pledged their full support and have immediately begun mobilising residents to participate. Likewise, stakeholders such as the Community Development Committee (CDC), student bodies, and youth organisations were on the ground and have committed to driving full participation.
“I, therefore, call on all eligible residents of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA and the entire Ikorodu Division to seize this opportunity. Registration is open, simple, and accessible to all, with enormous benefits ranging from vocational centres to starter packs and entrepreneurship support.”
Mr Adelani Akinpelu, the representative of the NEMEC, speaking on the essence of the visit said that it is to inform the generality of the people of the need to key in:

“The purpose is to inform our people about the ongoing exercise of enrolling out of school people, both young and adult. Anyone that is above 15 years but due to one reason or the other could not continue their studies. This platform offers them the second chance.
“This is what the federal government in conjunction with the Lagos State Government are bringing to the communities in Igbogbo, so that they can enrol for this exercise by making themselves available for registration.
“The enrolment is seamless. Once they are 15 years and above, they only need to register with their Names National Identification Number (NIN), date, telephone number, age, and community name.”

He said that communities with the highest number of registrants will be considered first for the citing of facilities like vocational centres.
He also said that applicants for vocational training or business start-ups will be provided with starter packs or financial support.
The NEMEC representative also urged graduates seeking entrepreneurship opportunities to register for the programme.
