In his efforts towards addressing the infrastructural deficits in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Developmental Area (LCDA), especially in flood prone areas, the council chairman, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), has again toured some of these areas as a follow – up to his previous assessment to determine the council intervention.
Towards this end the council boss is partnering with the Ministry of Environment, especially the Office of Drainage Services in bringing succour to his people’s plight.
As part of his entourage on Saturday, was the Resident Engineer, Drainage Services, Engr. Sunday G. Omoniyi, who assessed the situation and the efforts of the community in providing palliative measures.

Areas visited were Pineapple Estate at Wagbare, Lajo, Morekete and Oga Oloye communities.
At Wagbere, residents’ representatives expressed their ordeal at the last flooding which they said caught off the entire community, thus, the community intervention is to construct a culvert over the canal that carries water from Wagbare to Offin and Oreta axis into the lagoon.
Their efforts were commended by the council chairman and the resident engineer, who also shared with them the plans by the government to put in place lasting solutions to the challenges.

At Lajo, where the Chairman visited last week, the community leaders explained that they plan to fix three rings more across the swamp before filing it high with sand to prevent heavy flood washing it away, while at Morekete, the team toured extensively to assess the canal from various points.
The last point of call was Oga Oloye, where the IBLCDA chairman and the team also assessed the major drainage system constructed from Baiyeku Road into Prince Jimoh Ogunmuyiwa Street, which stopped down the street about six years ago. The state government is back on to complete the drainage system now.
Speaking with THE IMPACT at the end of the tour, Omo’ba Aroyewun said the exercise was a continuation of his tour of some parts of the council to address some environmental challenges.

He added that the council is partnering with the Ministry of Environment to address some of these challenges to provide succor to residents.
“The tour was in continuation to our earlier visits and assurance to residents that our administration is committed to their well – being and that we are poised to address the environmental and infrastructural challenges and prevent the sad experiences by residents earlier this month when some parts of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA were troubled by flash flood.
“So, as part of our intervention, today, we went round some communities – Wagbare, Lajo, Morekete and Oga Oloye – where residents faced severe hardship during the August 4th flash flood that ravaged many parts of the state.

“We went there with an official of the Ministry of Environment, Office of the Drainage System, to access the impacts of the flooding and see what we can do together in collaboration to prevent future occurrence.
“We are determined to address the concern of our people and ensure that they do not experience such flood that ravaged their areas again,” Aroyewun said.
