The Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omoo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), extended collaboration which his administration has been embarking upon since assumption of office a few weeks ago to the road unions in the council for the purpose of addressing the challenges of traffic gridlock.
The strategic engagement between the Chairman and key transport stakeholders – National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), as well as leaders of the Tricycle (Keke Napep) and Motorcycle Riders’ unions, started last week with a meeting at the council secretariat.

According to the Office of the Chairman, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Olowu, Council Manager of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Mrs Whenu Olamide, Chief Security Officer of the Joint Task Force in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Mr. Dare Igbasan, and the Chief Executive Officer, Marlex Limited, joined in the meeting and shared experiences and perspectives that helped shape the discussions.
The meeting addressed the growing concern over gridlock and the disorderly conduct of commercial vehicles and motorcycles along major routes in the council area. The Executive Chairman firmly expressed his desire to see the roads freed from chaos, emphasising that the comfort, safety, and convenience of road users must remain a top priority of his administration.

In response, the transport leaders acknowledged the concerns raised and assured the council chairman of their full cooperation in restoring sanity to the affected areas. They pledged to work hand-in-hand with the council to implement immediate corrective measures.
The Office of the Chairman expressed the satisfaction of the enforcement by the unions after the meeting,
“Omooba Aroyewun, who visited the Igbogbo major park on Friday, was pleased to observe visible compliance, as motorbikes, tricycles, and buses that had previously obstructed the roads had been relocated to designated parks, thereby creating a more orderly and free-flowing environment for motorists and pedestrians alike.

It further stated, “The swift compliance stands as a testament to the power of constructive dialogue and mutual understanding between government and stakeholders.
“The Council remains committed to sustaining this spirit of cooperation for the continued peace, order, and development of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.”
