By Alhaji Murisik Adesegun Ajisebutu (Field Marshal)

Today, 18th August 2025, marks the seventeenth anniversary of the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather – Alhaji Muhammad Muftau Adekoya Ayinde Adejuwon Ajisebutu of blessed memory. Your departure to the great beyond in 2008 left an irreplaceable void, yet your legacies continue to inspire pride, admiration, and gratitude among your children, family, friends, political associates, and all who truly knew you.
Your life, though relatively brief, was defined by extraordinary contributions to the social, economic, and political development of Ikorodu Division and Lagos State. A dedicated Awoist from Nigeria’s First Republic, you rose to prominence as a steadfast leader, a political kingmaker, and one of the great pillars of the Ikorodu community.

A Political Titan and Progressive Mind
As a fervent believer in democracy and progressive governance, you played crucial roles in the enthronement of three former civilian governors of Lagos State:
Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande (UPN) – 1979
Sir Michael Otedola (NRC) – 1991
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (AD) – 1999

Your influence also extended to the Lagos State House of Assembly, where you were instrumental in the emergence of three Speakers:
Barr. Oladosu Olumuyiwa Oshinowo (UPN) – 1979 – your cousin
Engr. Hon. Shakirudeen Abayomi Kinyomi (SDP) – 1992
Dr. Adeleke Olorunimbe Mamora (AD) – 1999
You were never just a political figure—you were a builder of people. You passionately worked for the elevation of many sons and daughters of Ikorodu into positions as Directors, Permanent Secretaries, Board Chairmen, and Members in Lagos State’s civil service and parastatals during the regimes of the governors you helped bring to office.

Transformative Local Leadership
As Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, you oversaw remarkable improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, and public services. Among your many achievements:
Market Development: You championed the construction of Sabo Market (now Ayangburen Market) by donating a large portion of your family’s land at Oreyo—creating the largest market in Ikorodu Division and one of the largest in Lagos State.
Healthcare Expansion: You facilitated the building of numerous Primary Health Centres across electoral wards and secured land from the Ireshe family for the construction of the Ikorodu General Hospital—a project you supervised to completion.

Infrastructure & Roads: Under your tenure, several roads and drainage systems were constructed. You also secured land from the Mosene family for the building of a befitting new Local Government Secretariat at Otunba TOS Benson Way.
Advocate for Administrative Growth
Your persistent advocacy for the creation of additional local governments led to the establishment of six new councils in Ikorodu Division, enhancing grassroots governance. You personally led scores of Ikorodu citizens and party leaders to the Lagos State Local Government Creation Committee to demand eight new councils—of which six were approved.

An Enduring Legacy
Your monumental achievements stand as a testament to your dedication, foresight, and service to humanity. Your name remains etched in the hearts of the people of Ikorodu and Lagos State.
Today, as we remember you, we also celebrate you—“Ewuwu”, as you were fondly called—an irreplaceable father, a quintessential leader, an enigma, and a political colossus.
May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive all your shortcomings, grant you eternal rest, and shower you with endless mercy until we meet to part no more. Amin.
ADIEU, MY GREAT DAD AND LEADER.
