There have been knocks for the immediate past Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, over the collapsed Itunmoja Road which was constructed by his administration and commissioned among other projects on the last day of his exit from the office after 10 years.

Adeshina served first as the Sole Administrator, Ikorodu LG for about two years and got elected twice for a term of four years each.

The shoddy work done by the administration was exposed when the heavy rainfall that caused flash floods in many areas washed away the asphalt which made residents of Itunmoja took to the social media to lament the unfortunate development.

The matter was discussed on THE IMPACT platform where participants who are residents of Ikorodu also condemned the past administration for wasting the council’s resources extensively.

A prominent youth leader and community development advocate in Ikorodu who is now based in the United Kingdom, Mr. Hammed Ganiyu described the development as a waste of public funds and charge political leaders on the need to curb such.

“I don’t understand why those leading us are so heartless and wicked. This has been the norm for a very long time, and I think our leaders need to look into this.

“It’s nothing but a waste of resources, time, and human capital. It’s better to do one good road than to do five bad roads just because you want people to call you Mr. Infrastructure. I’m sure those who give him all sorts of accolades are seeing it now.”

He also recalled that Sholafun Road the same administration constructed about five years collapsed even before the contractor vacated the site and some other projects by the administration which he alleged are sub – standard.

“Same thing happened to Sholafun in Anibaba and many other roads and projects like that.

“Salvation Army Primary School project experienced the same thing. The school was rehabilitated with inferior materials and was commissioned without toilet, “ Ganiyu said.

Shakioye Olatunji, the Assistant General Secretary, Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), also commenting asked residents to go and see the multiple roads and other projects constructed by the Kosofe and Bariga LCDAs, and compare them with the few ones done by Adeshina’s administration in 10 years.

“WADESH (Wasiu Adeshina) is assumed to be old enough to father Moyo (Kosofe LCDA chairman) of Kosofe. Visit Kosofe and see projects. 40 roads (were constructed) in 4 yrs and other better projects.

“Visit Shomolu to see quality roads and projects. Bariga LCDA is not left behind.

“Ikorodu is busy sending people to Hajj and Jerusalem instead of service delivery,” he said.

While stating that the ancestors of Ikorodu will make those responsible for the bad projects answerable, Shakioye also charged party members to always demand for quality projects and good service delivery from elected and appointed office holders rather than seeking for personal gains.

A Board member of Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative and public analyst, Mr Oke Godwin Olaoluwa (OGO), in his own remarks deplored a situation where there will be no consequences for such public officials that deliver bad projects and waste public funds.

“Unfortunately, there will be no consequences for such actions. What message will they be passing to the successor? Except the ones that have the fear of God sha.”

Mrs Funke Awoyemi, a community developer, pointed out the last minutes by the chairman to embark on projects as the cause of the shoddy job and call for investigation into the matter.

“This man is so primitive minded. He’s yet to come to terms with the present where actions are based on quality proofs! The young ones’ strides are almost “unmatchable” not to talk of an elder, agba, agbalagba!!!!!!

“I don’t know when he will wake up. Ojo de ti lo. This is an original eyesore, cheap and devoid of conscience. Owo a tan o but Karma is real. If he dares, let him walk or even try drive pass that street! He won’t even get home in half! Won ma pin ni. Ahn ahn. This should be looked into abi there’s no office for that ni?

“Investigation should start with the company involved while agba will be on his knees,” she said.

A former Special Adviser to the Governor on Education and APC leader in Ikorodu also commenting, agreed with other participants that the immediate past administration did a shoddy job and should be made to answer for it.

“Succinctly correct. Immediate past chairman of Ikorodu Local government, who failed to hand over to his successor, should be recalled to come and attend to the bad roads he rushed to construct,” he said.

Meanwhile, THE IMPACT gathered that the new Chairman, Prince Adedayo Ladega, his Vice, Hon. Babawale Alogba, and councillors have been briefed about the development and they are not happy it.

It was gathered that the councilors have summoned the contractor that handled the project.

Speaking with the Vice Chairman, Hon. Alogba this evening, he informed our reporter that he toured the failed project with the chairman, council engineer, the contractor that handled the project and other officials to have on the spot assessment.

He also confirmed that the chairman has pledged to undertake necessary rehabilitation of the road.

Hon. Alogba also revealed that some infrastructural deficiencies were also noticed in drainage system that connect the road into the Itunmoja Canal, a situation he said is threatening some buildings in the neighborhood.

He also informed THE IMPACT that the council will be addressing those problems too.

Earlier in the day, our reporter gathered from a source within the Ikorodu LG legislative chamber that the contractor has been summoned to appear before the house but the source did not confirm when
