Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), the Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has expressed his sympathy to many residents whose homes and areas were affected by the flash flood caused by the torrential rain on Monday.
The rainfall, which started Sunday night in many parts of Ikorodu and Lagos, flooded many houses and road, thereby, leaving many commuters stranded.
Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA is one of the areas that is badly affected, and this has made the council boss to go out to assess the situation early in the morning, and assured residents that necessary measures are being taken to address the situation. Some of the areas affected include Lajo, Ilado, Macaulay, Oreyo, Igbe communities among others

“I acknowledge the distress and inconvenience experienced by many residents due to the heavy rainfall. I extend my deepest sympathies to all households, businesses, and communities affected by the flash floods.
“Kindly note that immediate and long-term measures are being taken to address the root causes of flooding in our communities by IBLCDA, LASG and FGN”.
While government at various levels are taking necessary steps, Aroyewun appealed to residents of the council to cultivate good environmental attitude by not blocking drainages.

“As the governments implement sustainable infrastructural and environmental management strategies, I appeal to all residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices as flooding is often exacerbated by human activities that obstruct natural water channels and degrade our environment”, the Council Chairman appealed.
Meanwhile, Lagos State government has urged calm and issued safety advisories, as the Commissioner for Environment, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, has assured residents of ongoing of the efforts by the government to address the flooding menace, and advised those in flood-prone areas to relocate if necessary.
