Proclamation: Aroyewun Inaugurates 6th Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA’s Legislative House

The 6th Legislative House of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) came into operational existence on Tuesday, July 20, 2025, via the proclamation by the Executive Chairman, Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 and Lagos State Local Government Law 1999.

Aroyewun made the declaration at the Chamber of the House following the inauguration of the newly elected Councillors representing the five Wards of the Council at a special session attended by traditional chiefs, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), serving councillors from Ikorodu LG, former councillors, stakeholders among others.

With the proclamation of the House into existence, Hon. Basirat Adetutu Banjoko, a two – term Councilor and former Deputy Leader in the 5th Legislative House, was unanimously elected as the Leader of the Council in this legislative dispensation following her nomination by Hon. Hakeem Solawon and subsequent decoration and swearing -in.

In her first assignment as the Council Leader, Hon. Banjoko conducted the elections of other principal officers with Hon. Hakeem Sholawon emerging as the Deputy Leader, Hon. Adekunle Anifowoshe as the Majority Leader, Hon. Saidat Adeoba as the Chief Whip and Hon. Yusuf Bello as the Deputy Majority Leader.

Earlier in his proclamation, Aroyewun had declared that:

“Whereas it is provided in the relevant provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999. That the person elected as the Executive Chairman shall have power to issue a proclamation for holding of the first session of the Local Government Assembly immediately after he or she is sworn in.

“Now, therefore, I, Hon. Aroyewun Hammed Olalekan, the Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by relevant provision of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, afore said and all other powers enabling me in that behalf , I hereby proclaim that the first session of the 6th Legislative Council shall hold at 02:00pm on the 29th July 2025 in the Council Chamber , Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area Secretariat.

“Given under my hand and the public seal of the federal republic of Nigeria in Igbogbo/Baiyeku, this 29th day of July 2025,” he declared.

The clerk of IBLCDA, while also speaking during the declaration by the chairman, described the emergence of the Legislative House as the beginning of renewal and responsibility of delivering good governance.

“It is with great honour and profound sense of duty that I stand before you today as a flag of the Legislative Council to welcome you to this inaugural sitting and the official proclamation of the Legislative Arm of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, in the federation in accordance with the proposition of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Lagos State Local Government Administration Law and the standing order of this honourable house.

“This occasion marked the foremost commencement of a new legislative tenure, a moment of renewal, responsibility, and promise for the people of Igbogbo/Baiyeku, the peaceful conduct of the recent, newly concluded local government election reflects our collective commitment to democracy, good governance, and civic participation at the grassroots level.

“Honourable councillors -elect, by your emergence, you have earned the trust and confidence of your constituents, the people of your wards, who now look up to you to be their voice, their advocate, and their bridge to government, their expectations are high, and the responsibility placed upon you is not only legal but moral,” he charged.

The new Council Leader, Hon. Basirat Banjoko pledged the commitment of the 6th House to good governance and their readiness to uphold the tenets of the legislature.

She said that the House will collaborate and cooperate with the executive arm to move the council forward.

Gbenga Basanya, former Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Alhaji Sefiu Ogunsola, APC chieftain, Alhaji Jamiu Benson, APC chieftain, Alhaji Yisa, community leader, Hon. Nurudeen Alimi, former Council Leader, Hon. Wasiu Olowu, former Majority Leader and former Supervisor, Hon. Aganga, former Councilor, Mr Ade Bolowotan, former Chief of Staff to the former Council Chairman and Mr Shakiru Seidu, former Chairmanship aspirant among others.
