The Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Engr. Kabir Adewale Shotobi, the Adegorushen V, has unveiled activities marking his 10th anniversary as a monarch with the announcement of scholarships for 50 indigent students, launching of a book chronicling his journey to the throne and achievements so far.
There will also be conferment of a chieftaincy title of Yeye Oba of Ikorodu Kingdom on the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and launch of Oba Shotobi Foundation, as part of activities marking the milestone anniversary celebration.

Activities for the celebration were unveiled at a press conference held at the Ayangbure Palace in Ikorodu, on Wednesday, addressed by the Chairman, Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the anniversary planning team, Sir (Otunba) Ayodele Elesho, the Agbaakin of Ikorodu Kingdom.
The coronation anniversary kicks – off on Saturday, August 2, 2025, and ends with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
Elesho stated that the celebration is designed to mark the progress made under the reign of the revered monarch.

“Ten years after his widely celebrated and accepted ascension to the prestigious Ayangburen stool, Oba Shotobi’s reign has, no doubt, witnessed tremendous peace, prosperity, development and progress across lkorodu community and by extension, lkorodu Division.
“Suffice to say that this auspicious milestone celebration of Kabiesi’s 10th coronation anniversary marks a decade of dedicated service, cultural preservation and progressive development all of which are the hallmarks of the remarkable reign of our revered first-class traditional ruler,

“Consequently, we have decided to roll out the drums to commemorate this historic milestone. During this one-week celebrations, lkorodu community will play host to high profile personalities within and outside Nigeria. Among those expected are first-class traditional rulers, top government officials, captains of industry, eminent individuals among others”, he said.
According to Elesho, other activities slated for the coronation anniversary are Woro Traditional Procession with other cultural activities, Conferment of Chieftaincy Titles, Raffle Draw with a 2004 Toyota Camry as the Star Prize, Football Competition, Lecture, Donation to Charity Home and Special Day Celebrations by various groups and associations among others.

He emphasised the significance of the celebration, listing some of the achievements recorded within the 10 years reign of Oba Shotobi who is the Permanent Vice Chairman, Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
“For record purposes, notable among the key achievements under the reign of Kabiyesi is the creation of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited, which establishment was spearheaded by Oba Shotobi as the Chairman of Ikorodu Division Council of Obas and Chiefs, alongside other Obas in Ikorodu Division, in 2022.

“Since its formation, IDPIL, under the distinguished leadership of High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN, the Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom, security in lkorodu has witnessed unprecedented improvements. Ditto for impactful interventions in the area of Security, Health, Education, Environment and Road Rehabilitation among other sectors of Ikorodu division.
“Also, the declaration of lkorodu as the third largest city in the South-West and 12th Largest city in Nigeria in 2022, underscored the tremendous growth which lkorodu has attained under the Kabiesi’s eventful reign”, Elesho said.

On behalf of the Ikorodu monarch, the Chairman, Media and Publicity Sub – Committee of the coronation celebration, appealed for full participation of governments, organisations, groups, individuals and residents the weeklong celebration.
“As we gear up for the commencement of this epoch-making celebration, we use this medium, on behalf of the Alayeluwa, to appeal for the full participation, robust support and cooperation of all and sundry towards having a peaceful and successful 10th coronation anniversary celebration”.
