The Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS) has charged residents of Ikorodu Division on the need to be involved in the forthcoming Local Government elections actively.
The elections into the 57 Chairmanship offices and 377 Councillorship positions across the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across Lagos State is slated for Saturday, July 12.

In a statement signed by the IKODASS Publicity Secretary, Prince Dare Oshikoya, the IKODASS Chairman, Alhaji Fatai Kolawole Olayiwola, DCIO, gave the charge, stating that the coming elections would determine how the councils which are the closest government to the grassroots are going to be managed in the next four years.
“Dear Ikorodu People.
“As the Lagos State Local Government Election approaches, it is essential for all residents to take an active role in shaping the future of our neighborhoods – Ikorodu LG, Ikorodu North LCDA, Ikorodu West LCDA, Igbogbo Bajyeku LCDA, Imota LCDA and Ijede LCDA.

“We must know that our decision at the polls will determine the candidates to run the affairs of our treasured Local Government for the next four (4) years. It is therefore important for us to come out in good numbers to vote for the candidates of our choice.
“The strength of democracy lies in the active participation of its citizens. Let’s make this election count — for the good of our communities and future generations,” the statement said.

The IKODASS Chairman also called for total adherence to the electoral guidelines during the elections while also urging the electorate to do proper background checks on various candidates to have informed decisions when voting on Saturday.
“I urge voters to come out en mass, respect electoral guidelines, and avoid electoral malpractice. Elections are a civic duty, not a battleground. Encourage peaceful conduct before, during, and after the elections. Avoid fake news and inflammatory messages.

“Learn about the candidates contesting in your Local Government Area. Understand their plans, track records, and how they intend to serve your community.
“Most importantly, after the elections, stay engaged. Monitor the performance of elected officials, attend town hall meetings, and voice your concerns responsibly.

“Get your Voter’s Card ready, know your polling unit and confirm your name before the election date on Saturday the 12th of July, 2025.
“Your Vote, Your Voice, Your Power. I pray that the day shall be hitch-free as best candidates emerge.”
