Ikorodu will be hosting the rest of the country on Thursday for a book walk in commemoration of the 2025 World Book Day.
The event, which is the 3rd edition, is being organized by the Network of Book Clubs and Reading Culture Promoters in Nigeria (NBRP) in conjunction with the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG) through the Musediq Alogba E – Library & Research Centre.
This year’s edition is themed, “Reading for Progress” and the event will be chaired by Mr Alabi, former Director, CSS Bookshop.

Other eminent personalities including Arch. Taiwo Kara, Chairman, IDRDG, Dr Mobitan Olukoya, Vuce Chairman, IDRDG and Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, Chairman, Musediq Alogba E- Library & Research Centre among others are expected to keynote addresses and goodwill messages.
The walk which will consist of members of the NBRP, authors, book publishers, book and reading promoters among others, commences at 7am at Sabo Roundabout in Ikorodu through Sabo – Ikorodu Garage Road – Garage Roundabout – Ojubode – Ayangbure Road. There will be a stopover at the Ayangbure Palace where homage would be paid to His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Kabir Adewale Shotobi.

The team will move from the palace to the Ikorodu Town Hall, where open discussion, book readings, artists with illustrations and speeches among others hold.
According to the organisers, while the walk is going on, the children section of the commemorative event will kick – off with students and pupils from invited schools in attendance.
The children will also be joining the adult session in the closing reading session.

For this year’s edition, participants would have the opportunity of touring the Ikorodu Hall of Fame, Oteju ICT/CBT (Ikorodu Town Hall CBT) and the Musediq Alogba E – Library & Research Centre all within the Ikorodu Town Hall facility under the management of the IDRDG.
In a chat with the NBRP President, Mr Richard Mammah, it was revealed the walk is designed to promote and sustain reading engagements in Lagos in particular and Nigeria in general.
“The Network of Book Clubs and Reading Culture Promoters in Nigeria, NBRP and its partners and affiliates within the book ecosystem and communities around the state are the promoters.

“It is a reading promotion event designed to stimulate greater reading activities in Lagos and Nigeria.
“The walk is about 2-3 kms in length. All within a given local community area or more areas that do not span more than two local government councils or LCDAs in the state. It takes about 2-3 hours,” Mr Mammah explained the concept of the walk.
He said that there would be a book exhibition during the event at the town hall.
Meanwhile, organisers said that participation in the walk and the session at the Ikorodu Town Hall is open to all lovers of books and those who promote reading.
