Mr Taiwo Bolade Sonoiki, immediate past Chairman, OCOSAN 1975 to 1980 Class sets.

The combined Class of 1975 to 1980 set of the Oriwu College Old Students’ Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN), has unveiled plans for further development of the premier school in Ikorodu Division and one of the best secondary schools in Nigeria.

The plans were revealed to THE IMPACT by the immediate past Chairman of the combined set, Mr Taiwo Bolade Sonoiki, who spoke with our reporter at the reunion ceremony of Class of 1977 set at the Oriwu College Hall on Sunday.

He explained the six sets that made up the combined set, will from this year start celebrating their 50th graduation ceremony starting this year with projects that would transform the old school which celebrated 75th years of its existence as a school.

“We are part and parcel of the 1975 to 1980 set, but there is a plan in place. We are actually putting in place a six – year policy plan project wise.

“The 1975 set will be turning 50 years old this year, followed by the 1976 that will be celebrating theirs next year and our own set (1977) will be clocking 50 years of graduation from Oriwu College after our WAEC and so on and so forth.

“The idea is to celebrate the 50 years graduation anniversary of these class sets that were made up of 1975 to 1980 sets separately with different projects.

“We will be embarking on projects to commemorate the anniversaries of the Class set of 1975 set to 1980 in the next six years.” Mr Sonoiki said.

The chieftain of the alumni association, also charged the OCOSAN national body on the need to be cohesive and to work towards expanding the foremost alumni association.

“I want the OCOSAN national body to be cohesive as we are (1975 to 1980). The body should bring members together and mediate when necessary.

“We have to be together because it is in togetherness that we can achieve greatness.

“They should encourage other class sets to come together under and also be part of the OCOSAN national body. Since the establishment of the school in 1949 and till date, we should have about 70 class sets.

“I see no reason why we can’t get functional 40 class sets and we can make arrangements to have five class sets coming together to embark on projects. This is how we can make Oriwu College a paradise on earth in terms of projects and teaching excellence,” he posited.

Mr Sonoiki also advised the principals and other staff of the school on the need to ensure that they have a good relationship with the OCOSAN because the school has so much to benefit from the alumni association.

“The school must cultivate cordial association. They have a lot to gain from us.

“They should not allow any communication gap. They must close any that is existing which can cause any issue or misunderstanding,” he charged.
