The emergence of the first female Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has continued to generate interesting developments and support for her is coming in torrents.
Hon. Meranda, held the position of Deputy Speaker until last week when Hon Mudashiru Obasa was removed by the members of the House for gross misconduct.
The latest wave of support is coming from none other than the Speaker’s gender constituency serving as elected Chairpersons in various Local Governments across the state.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Gbolahan Rafiu Omotosho, it was said that female council bosses on Monday pledged their support for the Speaker during their congratulatory visit to her at the Assembly Complex.
“On January 20, 2025, the female chairmen of Lagos State’s 57 local government councils, under the aegis of Conference 57, paid a congratulatory visit to Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“The delegation expressed their unwavering support for the Speaker’s leadership and legislative efforts aimed at promoting good governance, socio-economic development, and infrastructural advancement across the state.”
The local council elected leaders furthered by emphasizing the significance of women in governance by reiterating their shared commitment to grassroots development, fostering of closer collaboration between the councils and the state legislature, and driving inclusive policies that enhance the lives of citizens.

According to the statement, the Speaker in her response, lauded the chairmen for their exceptional dedication and contributions to progress within their respective councils.
She encouraged them to remain steadfast in their efforts to champion sustainable development at the grassroots level.
